What bull or bulls would you steerplaneteers recommend using to make good high quality females >?? I have mostly maine/angus and simmi/angus cross cattle. I haven't kept  a whole lot of replacement heifers because I haven't had much luck with them so I  need all the help I can get. Thanks!

Captain is purbred shorthorn. Photo taken after breeding - no feed, just a hair cut.

Just depends on what your goals are. This Captain Obvious for example can't really be proven because he is only three years old. He appears to be a decent enough bull, but until now, I for one have never heard of him. He looks ok in his picture, but I would like to see his full pedigree and some more of his offspring. I would like to see the mothers of the two calves that are pictured with him on Cattle Visions. There are numerous bulls that should work be it shorthorn or maines or Simmy's or even Angus. Find something that sires the traits that you like on a consistant basis.

if you are trying to go angus i would say anchor or dcc new look, if your going simmi i would try dream on or meyer, and if your going maine i would try ali or strictly business.

For good maternal simmy genetics, I would suggest Macho, a 734 son. His semen is affordable and he makes great females when crossed with Angus.  The steers are pretty good too.  Lots of hair!

For Angus bulls any of the OCC kines or Ramblin Fever(he makes em fancy with lots of substance) For Maines I love my Irish Whiskey, Habenero, and Strictly Bussiness cows. Witch Doctor amd MMM also make some nice cows

I'd definitely try some 3C Macho on the Maine influenced cattle.

Not too sure about using him on the sim influenced, unless they are low percentage (3/8 or less).  It could work, or it could be a disaster.

An old standby for those Sim influenced cows is Who Made Who.

Good Luck!! (thumbsup)
