Steer is out of Heatwave looking at this steer says it all,. he is the total package.  Moves good and is broke to lead.  He is ready for the show ring.  This calf is going to be very competitive in any show this calf goes to.

I won't critisize your calf publicly, but I will by personal message if you want me to. That fella needs some serious help. Sometimes it's the picture taker or the calf,I think this calf may have some serious issues.

PM or no PM he got it lol.  I'm betting he prolly got more of an ear full in the PM.  I really dont like this idea of cutting down people.  If you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all.  It'll keep everything a little more civilized

I agree with you on cutting people down but at the same time when someone says that this calve will compete anywhere he goes and then you see pictures with issues thats a bit misleading. The worst thing i wanna see is some kid or family buy this calve because they think its gonna compete and then a judge busts them on some issues.

Dont get me wrong. I dont mind speaking my mind, but there is no reason to cut down someones calf.  If its your buddy its one thing but someone you dont know is crossing the line.  I agree the post is a little misleading.  I'm not saying that he shouldnt be corrected but dont be so harsh.

In my opinion, I don't believe he cut the calve down, he said he would pm if he wanted to know the calves faults, he did not say he was going to he asked. Also if anything i think it could help the guy out by explaining what is wrong with the calve, he may not know and think he's the greatest thing since fried rice. I do not think in anyway that TMJ really meant to be harsh, if you wanna see harsh I know that back in the day as i don't go on there anymore but other sites like cattle today use to be pretty harsh and would basically come out and say stuff like he's crap and good luck getting out of the top half of your class etc.

I think where this post is wrong is when he said "He's the total package" and "he'll compete at any show". I would  just say he's a good steer

Anyone can say what they want but I sure hope that he is talking about Shorthorn Plus papers on a Heatwave steer. I have taken grief for NOT registering steers that aren't purebred and if this calf is represented that way I for one think it is wrong. If he is going to a state where classification is the rule then great, but an ASA papers put him in a purebred  class I have trouble with that way more than the pictures.

Man it is nice to see that every one is passionate about the cattle business. This calf belongs to a friend that is not a member yet.  That said these pics are 7 or 8 weeks old sense then we have properly clipped him and blended in his back and front. This calf has tons of hair. I will try to get some new pics on when the weather allows. As to your post TMJ we all have opinions, you may be a fine man but I don't know you or how good your opinion would be. I see this calf every day and although he is not perfect I believe he will compete where ever we go. As for his papers they are Short Horn plus but he will show with the short horn class. If he doesn't sell he will show at the IL. beef expo in Feb. Totten thanks for your opinion next time I will just say hes a good steer, and thanks to you Herefordfootball for your reasoning, I'm new at this posting and did not mean to offend any one. Merry Christmas and God bless.

There was never any harm intended for anyone. However, there are calves posted on here sometimes with such exhorberent references to how good they are that it is not only misleading, but comical at times. If the truth hurts someone, then I apologize. I have references from EVERY steer jock and most cattle breeders about what I do or don't know about cattle. I have had customers and just plain folks who wouldn't know a bad fault if they seen one. Those people need help also.I play fair and want to be treated fairly myself. If there is something wrong with any of my calves, I welcome any and all criticism anytime. Sometimes people can't see beyond hair and sometimes the pictures are bad. The pictures that were posted, made the calf appear to have issues. As far as my experience , being in this bussiness for over fifty years and showed and sold cattle that have won more than their share at State and National levels, and even judged several hundred shows in my time, qualifies me to have an opinion. There were never any intent of bashing anyone whatsoever.Hell, even I have gotten wound up over calves that I raised, that weren't as good as I thought they were. My apologies to any offense, but that is life. i think i was fair in my comments, and since I didn't hear from anyone on a pm maybe they came to the same conclusions as I did. Some folks don't want to be embarassed by not knowing what issues their calf has. When you post on a public forum as this ,you have to be ready for criticism,me included. God only knows I get alot of it because of my political views, which is fine by me. Toughen up and don't get so emotional everyone.

If he is a HeatWave and you show him in the Shorthorn class, that's just cheating.  I will keep an eye out for this calf at expo, maybe he'll look better than these pictures.

Correctly mentioning that Heatwave isn't going to sire a purebred Shorthorn calf (although he could sire a Shorthorn Plus) should not be considered a problem by anybody... it's simply telling the truth.  Posting an opinion about a calf over on the Big Show Board, especially if the person is like me & they ask for an honest opinion, is also not a big deal, IMHO.  HOWEVER, I am not a big fan when it comes to posting or implying anything negative about a calf in the classified Ad section, especially when an opinion isn't asked.  It's not like the prospective buyers can't see the pics.  I'm not a Mod or the owner, but I just don't think it's a good thing when it's done in the classified's, but that is just my opinion, an opinion that herefordfootball, benny_b01, & Luke seem to agree with, but others probably don't.

Good evening folks, I meant no offence nor took offence to any Prior posts. I'm not sure what to type so as not to offend. Here goes, the emails that I received I forwarded to his owner however he wont get them until tomarrow. With respect to Olson Family Shorthorns, this calf wasn't raised here he was originally purchased with shorthorn plus papers. I grew up showing reg. Angus and until my 9 year old son decided last year he wanted to show a calf and then my buddy bought this calf and two outhers I had never herd of plus papers. TMJ you definitely have great credentials and I meant you no disrespect, I would love to have your knowledge andwill pm you later.
