We are looking for a donkey that might guard our sheep?  Will they do that?  Might want to also use them to break steers.... maybe.... but mainly for the sheep.  Does anyone know of anyone that have them.  We're in Central TX.  Coyotes or dogs on the prowl!!  HELP

You might think about a mini donkey.  We have one and he will get after strange dogs.....even ours sometimes!  Some friends had a full size donkey in with their goats, and it actually killed two of the babies.  If you get a full size, make sure he has been with goats or sheep previously.

make sure it is a female.  Much easier on your livestock.  Jacks can be pretty mean.

I have seen them listed on Craigs List under Farm and Agriculture.

yes donkeys could be your best option.. guard the sheep, and break the calves.. I would think they'd work great dual purpose....  Guard dogs work great, if you can keep them home...  Many also use llamas... I've seen all 3 working great, and sometimes together...

We have 5 donkeys. 2 jacks and 3 jennys. I have used them to break calves, and they work great. I need to get rid of a couple so I'd give ya one. We have a two that are brown and white and 3 that are all brown.
