We're currently offering semen on our new calving ease sire, Hillside Leader; owned with Grant Alexander, Horseshoe Creek Farms, Weybern, SK.

Leader is a November 2007 son of ArSuLu Matador (DFS Riders Eagle “Tex” X ArSuLu Missie 709) and out of a straight Elbee-bred daughter of the immortal sire Gizmo.  With a birth weight of 70 lbs, 205 d. wt of 666 lbs. and an 1189 lb. yearling weight, he represents a practical, performance alternative to most Shorthorn genetics today.   Solid red and polled, sound and athletic, Leader should sire problem free cattle with enough style and eye appeal for the show ring.

Semen is currently available for $25 per straw (minimum of 5 straws) plus shipping/handling.
For questions regarding the bull or to place an orders contact Joe Bales at 615-494-3476 or via SteerPlanet e-mail to JoeBnTN.

As you can image with his age, we didn't use him very heavily last fall so we've only had 2 calves to date with more to come in November.  The first two were both out of CCC Gold Rush first calf two year olds, with one having a heifer calf that weighed 65 lbs. and the other had a bull calf that weighed 75 lbs.  The bull calf was out of our senior yearling show heifer that had been fed all summer so I would have expected her calf to have been slightly larger.  With his pedigree I would anticipate this will be the norm for the majority of his calves.  The only thing we haven't done is breed him to a very large birth weight female - as we just don't have any.

Hope that helps.  Please let me know if you have any more questions or if you'd like to see any more pictures.

Mark,

I don't have a rear view picture of the bull, but he does have more than average muscle. As we've said about him all along - he's a bull that's an optimum not a maximum so he won't be as thick as the clubby bulls but he would be above average.  If you look back at some of his early pictures, you can really see the width for frame (one of the best visual indicators of real muscle) he has and you can see the turn over his top.  The only two times we had him out as a calf - he was the thickest calf in the divsion - one time showing as an AOB against European cattle - and that was always one of the first things the judges said about him.  I would expect his calves to be above average in muscle, but nothing beyond that.  Hope that helps.

He looks real good
A great pedigree

Grant will he be 100% in Canada?
Looks like he should be with Tex and Gizmo in background
No asterisks except on sire's dam from her dam's sire

Has semen been cleared and available in Canada?

Bob

That's him.  Thaks Uluru for the assist - I've been out for the past couple of days.

I'll have to let Grant answer the 100% in the Canadain book question but we will have him "up norht" very shortly.

Bob

Bob,

No he's my father's place in the eastern end of the state - off I-40 and I-81 east of Knoxville.  If you wanted to go that way to Louisville, when you get to Chattanooga you take I-75 to Knoxville then merge with I-40 East until it gets to I81 (about 25 miles east of Knoxville), then take I-81 to the third exit.  He's about 3 miles off the interstate.  He could then route you back to I-75 to get to Louisville without having to go back to Knoxville.  If you did that, it would add about 1-1/2 to 2 hours to your trip (not counting time at the farm).  I would also have to offer the caveat that we're trying to get him on a truck as soon as possible on his way to Canada so he may be gone by then.  If you want to go that route, please let me know and I'll be glad to get directions for you and maybe give you any trip info you might need.
