This heifer was born November 29,2008, ASA #*x4149105.  She is an SS Joe Rider out of a SS Kaboom cow.  She has been shown twice now and has done pretty well for us.  She was a class winner athe VA Beef Expo Shorthorn Show as well as Champion Bred and Owned Shorthorn.  In August she was reserve champion heifer at our county fair.  She has great disposition and keeps good hair for a shorty.  She has good bone and thickness and is sound.  She should be weighing around 500 lbs.  Located in Virginia off of I-81.  We have some buddies who haul or come take a look for yourself.  Asking $1,200 OBO.

Good lookin momma.  The calf picture is tuff to look at but I think she has some potential.  Nice lookin calf.

If it were me,
I would put her on some feed and put the beet pulp to her. She just needs some more cover and depth of body. The calf picture is not flattering. Try to maybe get some more pictures with better angels. She has the right breeding and momma looks like a truck. You didn't ask for opinion I just offered it so. Good luck.

Looks like the heifer has potential. But my question is....is she really only weighing 500 pounds? I have February and March '09 calves weighing 500 pounds or more. It seems to me that a heifer that is close to 10 months of age would be weighing more?!?

I agree DCC, we have an Oct. 2008 shorthorn that we have been showing and she is somewhere around 1000. She weighed 500 last march.

My fall calves were the last set that were pre creep feeder.  Have one now and they spring calves were a little better but still not anything to brag about.  Our commercial calves always grow faster but these shorthorns just don't want to grow for me.  That is why I am slowly getting rid of my shorthorns or crossbreeding them.  The purebreds have not done well for me but I have sold shorthorn cross calves to as far away as Michigan.  Especially the ones that turn out blue roan, everyone likes them it seems.  I am suprised more people haven't said something about our steers we show, because we push shorthorns but show black clubbies.
