I have two heifers that I will be selling.  Need opinions please.  First heifer is a My Turn heifer out of a solid Angus cow, born Feb 09.  She very deep sided, soft made, and smooth shouldered.  We AI'd her in May and July but she did not stick.  Next heifer is a Hannibal heifer from a cross bred Chi/Maine/Angus cow, born April 09.  She has a long, clean front and a freaky long spine.  Not a powerful made heifer but she brings a lot to the table.  We also AI'd her in May and July but she did not stick.

I run a small operation and don't have room to hold these heifers until next year.  I am going to take them to our local stock yards unless someone has an interest in either of them.  I have no idea what a good open heifer should be worth, which makes thing I'm better off taking them straight to the stock yards.

Any thoughts??

do you have pictures? i think you will get more money for them if you sell to a private buyer.

I agree.. .post some pictures!  Sometime it's hard to get heifers "stuck" doing AI.  If you can find someone that has a bull, and is willing to take the risk, you could probably get more than the auction barn.  I wouldn't count them out yet!

Would take $1,250 firm for either Heifer or they go to the Stock Yard next week.  Thanks for looking.

why are they still open?

Do not think we AI'd during the right time of their heat cycles.  Used the CiDR time breeding protocal for first attempt, used Lut for second.  I work long hours and it's tough to catch them in standing heat.

That's what they would be worth if they were bred. If you send them to the yards I can't see you clearing much more than $800.00.

Why are you so firm at $1250.00.

Why are yo giving up on these heifers so easily? If you don't think you bred them at the right time why give up on them? Did your other cows settle for you?

I say take em to the sale barn. its to late in the season to get a feb-april calf and it isnt productive to keep dry cows around for a year with no return.
