Hey Everyone.....this is Brad Hook posting from the Hampton Inn in Columbus, Ohio computer.  (I knew I should have brought my laptop!!!)

We were out dining tonite with some friends in the same place Brad and Julie Nelson were when I received a tap on my shoulder.....it was Julie, telling me that "Red" had passed away, and now I'm nearly in shock.

Yesterday I looked up from our booth at the Ohio Beef Expo to see a women with a big smile.....home made cherry pie and cookies heading towards me and you all know who it was.  Red kept her promise to bring me pie and I about fell over!!!!  My wife and I and the Nelson's hung out all day yesterday with Cathy and had a blast.  She looked GREAT,.....and seemed to be having the time of her life.  She introduced us to "Woody", who also was having the time of his life, while she was bouncing all around the place chatting it up with everyone.  My wife and Red talked about her health and all the trouble she'd been through......but that now she was back to feeling pretty good and was taking on the world.

She showed me her new Nikon camera, and took several pictures of everyone.  I told her that I wanted our picture taken together for Steer Planet...and she calmly said "We'll do that tomorrow......"  MAN, WHAT A SHOCK!

Our prayers go out to her family......but what a way for her to go!  Please call if you need anything, Brad.

What a terrible loss for her family - and us - her friends.

But what a wonderful gift from the good Lord letting her get to feeling better, enjoying her new babies, and I guess a last show.

Its another painful reminder that we all should enjoy every minute of every day.  Red was a great example of someone who I think did that.

I just talked to Cathy's daughter Nicole...poor girl.  She said no arrangements have been made as of yet.  As soon as I hear I will post it if Adam doesn't.

I got the pleasure of meeting Cathy and Mark a few years ago during one of my many trips from Florida to Ohio. On one of my visits to Ohio I made a trip over to her farm to see that years new calf crop. My first impressions of her was, that no matter what limitations were thrown her way she was determined to live life to it's fullest and enjoy everyday . My visits to Ohio were never long enough for me to get to know her, but Steerplanet has - she obviously loved and served The Lord Jesus Christ, loved her wonderful husband Mark, loved people , and had a true passion for God's creatures - especially cattle. She went from walking the genetic pathway at the Ohio Beef Expo on Friday to walking the Streets of Gold in Heaven today, not a bad way to go... My thoughts and prayers are truly with Mark and the entire family. Byron

In memory of my friend Cathy.

GONE TOO SOON
by Buz Kohan

Like a comet blazing across the evening sky,
Gone too soon.

Like a rainbow fading in the twinkling of an eye,
Gone too soon.

Shiny and sparkly and splendidly bright…
Here one day, Gone one night.

Like the loss of sunshine on a cloudy afternoon,
Gone too soon.

Like a castle built on a sandy beach,
Gone too soon.

Like a perfect flower that is just beyond your reach,
Gone too soon.

Born to amuse, to inspire, to delight….
Here one day,  Gone one night.

Like a sunset dying with the rising of the moon,
Gone too soon…      Gone too soon.

I am devastated by the news that caught up to me as my boys and I are at a show this weekend.  All I can think about is what a true friend Cathy was to me and what a empty space I feel in my heart right now.  Thanks, Gidget for finding me and letting me know.

I know how excited Cathy was to go to OBE.   I am glad that she spent the last day on this earth doing what she dearly loved to do.

Now I am going to think of Red in a better place, with a new lovely strong body and strong heart that will let her walk in tall green grass among the cattle she loved, as well as friends and relatives that have gone ahead of her.

Red, I love ya, girl!   You always made me smile!  You will be sorely missed by this little community we have developed here.

My sincere condolences to Mark, Nicole, and Cathy's extended family.

As a "Newbie" to Steer Planet I was first nervous to post but when I did, it was Red who welcomed me and gave me my Karma point.  Although I still don't know what Karma points really are, it was nice to be welcomed and it was even nicer to always know she would have encouraging words for most every situation.  When I read the news on the home page from my Blackberry I was so stunned, I kept telling my husband how much better she had been feeling and how she had been posting photos of her new calves and I was overwhelmed.  It is yet another reminder to be thankful for every moment you are given and to hold close to your family and loved ones. My heart and condolence goes to her family and to all that she has touched.  -Katie

First off, Cathy is in a far better place now than any of us on this earth (angel). She is truely someone that has been an inspiration to me. I learned of her passing this evening while working on a steer at the OBE, I must have looked like a fool trying to clip a neck with tears rolling down my cheeks. I saw Cathy yesterday in the Joe display and she was just as I had expected, the SOCIAL BUTTERFLY, I stopped for a second but walked on by being so busy my head was spinning, TOMORROW...I THOUGHT TO MYSELF. Major life lesson learned the hard way, TOMORROW IS NEVER GUARANTEED TO YOU, I, OR ANYONE ON THIS EARTH. Take the time to stop and say hello regardless of how busy you may be. GOD BLESS YOU RED, YOU WILL BE MISSED BY MANY MORE THAN YOU WOULD HAD EVER IMAGINED :'( SPREAD YOUR WINGS AND FLY (angel)

Just now got the news.  :'( I was very shocked when I read the first post. Cathy has been a great help to many, and she was right there to lend a hand when I was searching for bulls. Always will appreciate what she did. I know she's in God's presence as we speak. Glad she went peacefully. God bless those she left behind and may He comfort you all.  (angel)
