Need help "fitting" a Slick steer for show!

Hi there!  New here!!!!  This is my son's first year showing a steer.  Our local show is slick shear for steers......I know that is a sensitive issue here, and do not want to start a debate.  Just looking for some advice on how to prepare his hair at the show prior to entering the ring.  Any info. is appreciated.  Thanks!!
