DL or Telo's could probably give you some insight.

We had one cow that was Power Plant x Traveler T510 and she was beautiful. She was extremely moderate framed and milked good. She had some feet trouble other wise we could have kept her longer. You had to watch what you crossed her with or you would get some shoulder.
You may not like her but she was a good cow for us.

I would have to say good Angus genetics works the best on Power Plant bred cattle.

I used to have a great Power Plant X Angus cow that I bred to Chill Factor a few times.  I got 3 bull calves from that combo.  Two were county fair grand champion steers and the other sold as a bull.  I always wanted a female, but never got one.  Cow got old and was getting hard to get bred so I sold her years ago.

IF you have really good Powerplant xAngus daughters, breed or flush to FULL THrottle,if you can find good semen[maybe Dean Kephart]Keep the heifers and breed them to Northern Improvement ,Jacee's Ramblin Fever or Juneau. The second time around breed them to Heatseeker or Heat wave, preferably Heatseeker. When you get [not if] your good calves, call Mark Copus, Steve Bonham,Dustin Glover,Tony Austin, hire a Brinks truck for protection to the bank.

Pretty good recipe TMJ, only problem is by the time you got to your end product in ten years, who knows what we are going to be looking for LOL!

Power Plant is kind of like plutonium. Very unique and powerful and can do some amazing things, but in the wrong hands or used improperly, can have a devistating effect.

Power Plant on good milking DEEP angus cows can still make good all purpose bulls and great steer moms or maine moms. It is definitely worth using if you have it.He wont add hair or bone or depth, and he didnt seem to bring milk to the maternal side. He didnt take away from those, he just didnt add them. Neutral in those areas. He did the rest as good as any ever though.

That being said, my non scientific observation leads me to have a theory that the structure problems we see today stem from line breeding powerplant, as well as monkey mouth and who knows what. Knabe will probably chime in with some non linear quantatative algorythm proving me wrong, but it just seems to me that when you see one that is way too straight, or hard moving, you can find a double dip o' Plant back there.

changers change, so you get variability.  would be interesting to tabulate the number of junk cattle out of powerplant versus carriers from draft pick and the opposite as well.

Many kinds of cows could work well, but my favorite cow still would  be an Angus. Maybe a Chi x Angus or even Simmental x Angus. Other Maine genetics can work well. Inbreeding or linebreeding his genetics is not advised IMO. You may want to give Miles Dejong in SD, the breeder who has used him extensively, a call and get his opinion.

not saying there hasn't been progress, but listing 10 is hard to do that are 7/8ths (assuming his pedigree is correct) that have had, or continue to have his impact post powerplant.  if you include pre and post, it's still difficult.

you could probably list them on one hand.

Is the question "I have Power Plant semen what kind of cows work best"?

Yes

This is actually a question I am currently pondering -so the answer is sort of a work in progress

Power Plant added style, muscle, moderates and adds calving ease. He is not maternal, calves are not always correct, and there is a tendency to have more tubular offspring.

He is neither homozygous solid patterned or homozygous black

He did however sire a bunch of excellent bulls (Witch Doctor, Stout, Caesar, Zeke etc) (and some duds, and some that never collected) - what these bulls seemed to have in common was a great dam - often tracing to Smithbilt, Cunia, Epinal or Copenhagen -  the other thing common to these Power Plant sons was excellent promotion.

His sons certainly seem to have longevity and many (including Stout) are repeatedly sires of Cornerstone dams. Wise's used PP genetics with their Midas females with some success. I have a picture of LLND Tempest (PP x ZTA BLK Ruby 535P - a Paramount grand daughter) - although long and feminine, she is more tubular than I prefer. I am not really aware of any great PP females...

So bottom line - for Maines anyhow - cow needs to be deep, correct, maternal - I am thinking of either a Midas or Magic female, but still thinking

Speaking of Powerplant, I have a Witch Doctor female with quite a bit of PP in her pedigree. Like DL said, she is a bit tubular but really stout and moderate. Which clubby bull might work on her to increase frame size? I might follow TMJ's advice and try and get some Full Throttle semen. Below is her pedigree.

                                                TWIN CREEK ETULASON - 313
                                 POWER PLANT - 84546

                 THE WITCH DOCTOR - 169334
                                                 ODW GOLDSTREAM 5T - 113995
                                 LLND ASHLEY - 145341
                                                 MISS APPLICATION - 115735
 FCF INDIAN PRINCESS1307P - 344326

Monopoly being from an Angus cow might work for a show steer. I'll have to agree with TMJ, Chi-Angus genetics (Throttle, Heat Seeker,Total Play) has always been the ticket with PP, but they almost always need to go back to high percentage Angus or Amerifax cows, IMO. Adding more Maine genetics almost always yields one that is too tubular from my experience. You just need more depth with those PPs. They can also get too straight off both ends. WMW is probably the most popular PP derivative.
