This for me is the toughest match up yet, they both excel, but in different segments of the industry.

you and me both j....1) segment "of" the industry  and  2) segment "in" the "history" of the" industry".....some choices seem to be "gettin' it done" now......some "got it goin' then...not just this particular bracket,.... but alot of the match ups have been a bit out of my reach, as far as "my" knowledge lets me go... ....i've sat out and watched more than a few brackets in the early rounds, .......kinda like tryin to bet on a    ali/ mike tyson fight....both in there prime...hummmm......i could talk or think myself right in and out of both of those for a while...jbarl  ( thanks again nasc )

As I continue to move more and more towards breeding my pures, OCC Anchor is right up there on top.

Maybe I approach this a little differently than some of you.  Considering that many of these bulls have been around awhile, I've seen alot of them in person, sold semen from most of 'em, and used quite a few of them either in my own herd, or some of my family or friends' herds that I'm very involved with.  I consider the value they've had in mine or the programs I'm involved in, along with the influence I feel they've had in their sector of the industry, and I give extra credit to those that have positively influenced more than just a single breed or the club calf sector.  In the end, the tiebreaker for me is always which one would I rather have daughters of in my herd. Or if that fails, which one's genetics do I think will be the most valuable 10 years from now.

In this case, I've gotta give Heat Wave credit for siring more winning show steers (and show steer sires) probably than any other bull in history.  In fact 3 of the 8 (that'd be all of the crossbreds) show steers we have on feed right now are HW sons or grandsons.  I've also got to take away points for calving ease, structural soundness, inconsistency and maternal traits.  Anchor doesn't have the direct show ring strength, though his daughters have proven to be outstanding club calf producers.  He gets positives everywhere HW gets negatives for me though, and wins both tiebreakers...  This one goes to Anchor for me.

I don't think anyone should feel bad about voting for whatever reason they choose.  Pretty much every bull that's been in the whole contest has been deserving of consideration.  I know at least once I've voted against a bull I've nominated myself, and many times (including this one) I'd choose both if I could.
