Wanted / Hoof trimmer needed
« on: June 05, 2011, 08:39:32 PM »
Ok, I'll admit it up front...I have a couple older cows that need to have their hooves trimmed....located in south-central Indiana....not show cows, just hard working mommas....any suggestions (besides culling them  ;D) for somebody within a reasonable distance that I should contact for their hoof-trimming services? Thanks in advance....John

Recently purchased large semen tank...it is still in Columbus, MT, not far from Cow Country Genetics in Cody, WY....would like someone traveling from out there back east (Indiana preferably) bring the semen tank and large group of semen and embryos back to Indiana for me....will pay fair price...John, 812-350-9942

I have one for sale...John

Sorry if I am a little slow thinking here (maybe the cold has frozen my brain) but I want to clarify about the embryos....there will be 3 possible different buyers, each buyer having the choice of sire and then  each buyer gets 3 embryos....or.....does one single buyer get nine embryos, out of 3 different sires?  Since cataloged as only one catalog number, I just want to clarify. Glad they ARE exportable. Thanks for info and patience. John

The catalog says these embryos are NOT exportable.....please verify....thanks

Cattle For Sale / Recips for sale
« on: November 10, 2010, 09:33:19 PM »
Need young, milky recips? We have 4 Charolais/Holstein cross cows with calves at side. Three of the 4 are feeding their first calf, the fourth is nursing her second calf. These are growthy young cows out of generations of reg. Holsteins and a fancy Charolais sire. The first one calved early September with an Angus 6I6 heifer....the other 3 calves are out of our Simmi/angus bull....2 heifers/ 1 bull calf. The first 2 that calved already had first natural heat....all 4 are young, tall, gentle, good uddered, great mothers, and up=to=date on all vaccinations. Would like to sell all 4 pairs together if possible....GREAT recip possibilities and 3 have heifer calf future recip possibilities!....75 minutes north of Louisville off I65...$1000/pair if you take all 4 pairs....812-350-9942

Does the branding iron make a difference if it is iron or brass?  doesn't it take different times depending on hide color? thanks

The Big Show / Branding
« on: November 06, 2010, 03:59:08 PM »
I have considered branding as an alternative to eartags....would prefer to brand using liquid nitrogen...my questions include: do you need brass branding numbers for liquid nitrogen or would the old non-brass branding irons work? what size numbers suggested for what ages? what is best age to brand? length of handle a consideration?best place on body? any and all advice invited...but please remember I will probably be using liquid nitrogen...as it is readily available....thanks in advance.

Cattle For Sale / SAV-bred Angus bull selling
« on: October 13, 2010, 06:32:26 PM »
This coming Saturday, October 16, we will be selling an outstanding pure SAV bred year-old bull.Eartag #17.  He sells eighth. We purchased embryos from SAV cows and in this case resulted in a fantastic bull. He has compteted in the Indiana Bull test station and went through with flying colors finishing second high index of all bulls, regardless of breed and missed first place by 1%. He is an SAV 8180 Traveler 004 son by an SAV daughter of Bando 5175. His SAV grand dam is a Pathfinder donor at SAV and this bul(Eartag 17)l had 5 maternal sisters  sell in their sale a couple years ago and averaged $11,500 as calves! His reg. number is 16535488...born 9-15-09..NicKatie 9106 Embly Net. There are quite a few Emblynette bred bulls in bull studs. At 370 days, the week of his first birthday, he weighed 1480 pounds at the test station! He averaged close to 5lbs/day on test since this spring at the test station. Birth weight was 85 lbs. His EPD's and carcass details  can be found on his AAA pedigree or the Indiana Bull Evaluation Program (IBEP) site....call Purdue at 765-494-0138....or call Richard Huntrods directly (he is manager of the test farm) for his insights on the bull. He has passed all the soundness exams and has also been declared FREE of AM...NH...AND CA.....might be the ONLY bull selling with CA in his pedigree but he has been tested CAF by Dr. Beever himself! Feel free to contact me if any further info is needed. The sale will be this Sat. afternoon and broadcast live on DVAuction.   NicKatie Angus    John Finke    812-350-9942   Columbus, IN

Buy a pure SAV bred bull without going to North Dakota in February! <beer>
