The Big Show / Older Fluff'r Blower
« on: April 03, 2016, 09:47:39 PM »
Would anyone have information on the Fluff'r blowers produced by Gardner Mfg. Co.?
Also if a Sullivan's or Circuiter blower motor would fit?

The Big Show / 2015 Agribition Shorthorn Champions/ RBC Finalists
« on: December 02, 2015, 09:58:43 PM »
This year at Canadian Western Agribition the Shorthorn champions both made the top 10 in the RBC Beef Supreme Challenge this has never happened before where both bull and female were chosen as finalists at the same time.

Bell M Farms and RSL Cattle Company were fortunate to exhibit Bell M Foreman 30A first in the breed show gaining Grand Champion Shorthorn Bull and then in the top 10. Bell M Foreman 30A is a son of JSF Top Hand 34R and out of Bell M Misty 57P, a Bell M Appollo 12L daughter.

JT Livestock and Pinch Hill Cattle Company won Grand Champion Shorthorn Female with Frasers Ruby Zaida 4Z with bull calf at side, JTPH Beat the Heat 584C. She was also declared a finalist in the supreme.

It was great to hear the positive remarks made towards the Shorthorn breed from cattlemen of other breeds commenting on how strong of a representation the breeders brought to the show.

First picture is taken after breed show and second is during the supreme. Viewing of all champions can be viewed at Show Champions.

OH Breeder you are vey close, but Speckle Park came about through the breeding of Shorthorn bulls on commercial White Park cows. When the founders of the breed noticed that they kept on throwing the same colour patterns of leopard, and white with black points, they kept back the good ones. They then incorperated black angus.

It is very intersesting playing around with this breed, thus I have a few commercial Speckle Parks myself. For a few years I have been breeding them up with purebrd bulls through AI and this past year they were all bred Shorthorn. I have gotten mostly white with black point colored calves (Cows are all white with black points). Got some solid blacks, leopard, and this year I got a white with red points.

Cattle For Sale / Re: Shorthorn Bull Sale Opinions
« on: April 02, 2014, 01:09:22 AM »
I didn't mean for this post to be place in "Cattle For Sale", if I did I would have put it there! I am just wondering what cattle producers opinions are on the cattle consigned to the sale.

So if it is possible may you please put it back into the "Big Show Main Forum"

So it has been awhile since the show, but an update of how the steers turned out.
The first steer pictured was Reserve Grand Champion Angus steer at Lacombe Spring Steer and Heifer Show, and came out of both junior and open classes at Lakeland's Little Royal.
The second steer came in 3rd in both classes at Lakeland's Little Royal.

The Big Show / College Steers
« on: February 11, 2014, 01:05:48 AM »
I am wanting your opinion on two steers that the Lakeland College Stockman's Club from Vermilion, Alberta will be exhibiting this spring at a few shows. They are both Simmental X Angus and out of the College's Student Managed Farm's herd. They were exhibited along side their mothers in the commercial pen show and ended up placing grand champion. They are both ranging in that 945 lbs range as of last week Tuesday. They have been worked on continuously since January, no clipping or washing has been done to them yet.

(I know the pictures are not the greatest, but will give you a general idea)

The Big Show / Re: White hooves on shorthorns?
« on: February 08, 2014, 10:59:41 PM »
Are you serious??? I rather like my cattle having functional, sound feet rather than caring about what colour their hooves are!

I was down in Denver and was very impressed with the quality of bulls presented, I liked both bulls but have always wondered how many cows Element has naturally bred in his lifetime.
