The Big Show / Spring Shows
« on: September 24, 2008, 06:44:44 PM »
I posted this in Upcoming Shows, but haven't got a response yet, so thought Id try this. Does anyone know of any Prospect Shows in the Central Nebraska, or Northern Kansas area? They can be any where from November-July. I already got information on a show in Norfolk, NE. RSC and Cowboy, if you guys know any good ones, lemme know.

Thanks,
Turk

Upcoming Shows / Spring Shows
« on: September 22, 2008, 08:20:50 PM »
Where are some of the good Spring Shows in Central or Eastern Nebraska, or Northern Kansas? We have some real good calves, and are looking for some shows to go too.

You can drop me a PM if you have entry info, or anything about them.

Thanks,
Turk

The Big Show / Tired Of Your Wash Hoses Being A Mess???
« on: July 07, 2008, 09:50:07 AM »
Well, I was, and I found a great way to keep them neat when im not using them. Take an old oil drum, and cut one of the tops off, and clean it out good. Then set a 5 gallon bucket down in it. Then you can just run the hose around the bucket and it will stay in a nice coil. Also, it helps to put some tape, or rubber on the lip of the barrel, then when you pull the hose out to wash, it doesn't get cut!

Just a cool idea I thought I'd share with everyone.

The Big Show / Final Answer

Has anyone used him? I have seen some really nice calves out of him, and the yearlings he sired at Connealy's looked great and sold well. What do you think?

The Big Show / Plum Island
« on: July 05, 2008, 03:49:23 PM »
Just got the new Angus Journal today. There was a big story on the Animal Disease Research Center that is located on Plum Island. The island is 840 acres, and is located in a remote location off of the New York Coast, and is only acessable by boat or helicopter. The facilities are becoming outdated, and there may be "leaks" of diseases that are being researched there. Basically, the story was the history, and purpose of this center, and also, the new location for the facilities. They are looking at moving it to the USA Mainland. There are 5 potential locations on the mainland, plus rebuilding on Plum Island. What do you think about them moving this Research Facility to the mainland? Can it cause problems if not maintained properly? Is it worth the risk of moving it? What do you think.

I couldn't find the story online, and there is much more to it. So if anyone finds it before me that would be great.

The Big Show / Calves For County Fair (Pictures)
« on: July 01, 2008, 04:55:13 PM »
Well, our county fair is in 2 weeks, so I thought I would get some opinions on the calves. It is just a small country fair with maybe 30 calves in it. Let me know what you think.

Picture 1: Angus Steer, out of a herd bull "Festus".
Picture 2: Angus Market Heifer, out of one of our herd bulls.
Picture 3: Maine X Angus Steer, out of Paddy O' Mally and an Angus Cow.

Just A Note: They were set up on an uneven cement pad.

We have a few calves that are broke to lead, and lead well with someone behind them, but they are VERY stubborn when you try and lead them by yourself. Any suggestions???

The Big Show / Fly Spray
« on: June 21, 2008, 10:55:50 AM »
What does everyone use for fly spray on their calves? We used to use a liquid from the vet store that you mix with water in a spray bottle. We just recently tried using an aresol fogger spray. It works GREAT. I was just wonderin what you guys used.

What kind of soap do you/ can you use in it. It says you can use it to wash vehicles, animals, trailers, etc. So i assume you can use a bunch of different soap.

Thanks,

The Big Show / Building A Mister System
« on: June 11, 2008, 05:35:21 PM »
We have a bunch of old sprayer parts. It gets really hot here in Nebraska in the summer. If i could get a hose with some old nozzles set up, do you think it would work? If so, should i place the nozzles in front of the fan, or above the calves so it shoots down.

The Big Show / Dirt Track Racing (Not Cattle Related)
« on: June 09, 2008, 12:10:27 PM »
Does anyone enjoy these? What are your favorite type of cars to watch? What is your favorite or hometown track?

Every year we go to Belleville, Kansas for the NCRA Late Models on the 4th of July. They are a blast to watch. We are hoping to go down more than once this year. We also go the Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Nebraska.

This is a response to the farming thread. I am a farmer and a cattleman. We keep our cattle going by land we have bought over the years for pasture, (which we are losing a bunch to land lords tearing it up for farming), and by using our own grain to mix feed.

How do you keep going with the high hay, grain, and care costs of your cattle?
