« on: July 02, 2008, 11:22:47 PM »
What is the white foam called that is used to make the cattle's hair pop and is just blowed off.  It may not be a foam, but I do know it is white.  Could anyone help it would be much appreciated.

The Big Show / Goat vaccinations
« on: June 18, 2008, 08:27:32 AM »
What kind of vaccinations should I give my goats?  One is a year and the other is 4mo.  Both have been wormed, but the 4mo old we just got from the sale barn which is what is scaring me.  How often should I worm them?  My dad is going to give them pencillin tonight.  Any suggestions would be great because I ain't a goat farmer.   (lol)

The Big Show / Yearling Heifers!
« on: May 11, 2008, 09:24:07 AM »
Spent last weekend and yesterday clipping so I decided to take some pictures.  I am especially proud of these heifers because they are out of herd bull and home grown.

The first one is a January heifer.

The next two is of a March heifer.  This was her first day leading (I think she did super) so she didn't want to stand still for the camera.

Give me some feed back if you will.

The Big Show / Question about fillers
« on: May 11, 2008, 09:15:00 AM »
Does anyone use Full&Fresh?  IF so how many pounds do you mix for each feeding?

As far as fillers, we use cottonseed hulls.  Someone mentioned in an old post that they don't use beet pulp (which IMO is the same as cottonseed hulls) to grow an animal.  We have been using a ration w/ CSH in it for our steers and they have never looked better and they are growing.  Any comments on that?

The Big Show / Back from U of I
« on: April 29, 2008, 09:54:57 PM »
I got in at about 6 from champaign.  Our FFA team won 1st in section and decided to head to state, but once again I did horrible.  I guess their whole style of judging is different.  I don't know why but I scored horribly on the Keep Cull classes (scoring 30 31 and 25.  worst i have ever done).  The placings classes were deccent with a 40 48 and 50.  The 40 kinda makes me mad because I know I can do better.

Has anyone else went in the past or did anyone go today?  Does anyone go to Murray or SIU?   How does everyone else do in Livestock judging?  Or Lincoln Land in Springfield IL?  My ag advisor takes me to many, which I am very glad of.  Just tell me about your Livestock judging experiences.

Last year I got 18th at Lincoln Land out of 300.  18th this year out of 400.  Three way tied for 10 at SIU out of 400.  1st out of 50 for section.  Where as last year I got 3rd in section.

I never would have guessed that I would be the best in our school and let alone the section.  I am excited to see what the next two years hold out for me and how well my sister does in high school.

I am sorry if I sound like I am braggin because I am by no means great.  If I ever completely win state that will be great, because that is where the competition is and it is tough.

Here is a link to an online judging contest for all ages.  I did this last year and ended up on bottom.  So all that will please enter before May 15th.  Good luck to all that do.

« on: April 10, 2008, 08:05:44 PM »
What is the maxium amount of characters a ear tattooer can hold?  Another question.  How do all of you keep up with registration?  I am about to crack just thinking about it.  I have to transfer the hef. for junior nationals and register the calves.  Do any of you have any secrets you could let me in on?

The Big Show / Roto brush and Fogger...
« on: April 10, 2008, 09:49:29 AM »
How exactly are you supposed to use a roto brush and a fogger?  I know it is a stupid question.  I know that the roto brush is placed on a drill and the fogger on a hose, but i need details.  How do they help?

Thanks,

Jamie
