The Big Show / RC show cattle sale
« on: September 06, 2011, 02:25:57 PM »
Anyone make it to the sale and have results?

was planning on going but couldn't get the hay off the ground in time.

in particular looking for lots 17 and 18 but wouldn't mind seeing most of them.

The Big Show / Alias
« on: May 04, 2011, 10:43:35 PM »
Has anyone seen a real good one or know of what kind of cows he works on?

i have seen several but they all seem to leave a little still to desire and haven't seen one yet that i have fallen in love with.

i have a chance to get/use some semen and didn't really know what to breed him to. we have some angus based cows to breed him to possibly but he's not exactly what i would call a growthy bull.

might just pass on the opportunity unless i see or hear something i like...

The Big Show / Ohio State vs. Nebraska
« on: December 27, 2010, 10:07:57 PM »
So it looks like OSU will be playing in Lincoln against Nebraska next October.

Since I made the drive up to Minnesota to watch them play the Gophers, I figured I could make the trip from Columbus to Lincoln.

I guess I am trying to say is that if it is possible for me to get a ticket, I would enjoy hearing if there will be any Steerplanet members planning on attending.

I always thought a game like this would be pretty cool to see especially between two tradition rich programs.

The Big Show / mainetainer to %maine
« on: October 06, 2009, 01:45:17 PM »
i have a paddy omalley heifer that is currently bred to calve to our angus herd bull in april. her dam is a simxangus cross.

i am really having problems trying to decide what to breed her too. i would really like to try and get some high % maines out of her descendants because i love some of the things she has to offer. as far as her faults she needs to have a little more volume and mass and just stoutened up a little. she is extremely sound and profiles nicely and has a feminine look about her.

we had a suggestion to use Open Bar on her but that is  kinda of breeding the same line again and i'm not too excited about that. i am at a total loss as to thinking of bulls that will add some body and a little frame wouldn't hurt but i think something like hannibal would get a little too tall.

any help would be great.

The Big Show / swollen stifle
« on: June 14, 2009, 01:13:34 PM »
we have a four month old heifer calf that has started to swell in her back right stifle joint. a couple days ago i watched her get up, stretch, and limp on it for a couple of steps then start to walk naturally after that. as of yesterday, she won't hardly put any weight on it at all and just lays around all day until she eats or drinks and hobbles up to the bunk.

it has really occurred quite suddenly and i have never seen this before. she can flex in the hock and pastern with out pain and seems to move the stifle joint some but won't put weight on it. it does have noticeable swelling in the stifle joint only though.

any help would be wonderful.

The Big Show / Second look at 100-0 basketball game
« on: April 15, 2009, 10:27:46 AM »
I wanted to post this last night but i ran out of time. I watched E60 the espn version of 60 minutes and they interviewed the coach who's dallas high school girls basketball team won 100-0. while i agree the score may be a little extreme, the footage they showed of the actual game was very interesting. my previous view was that it was a very conceited thing to do and i still believe the score was excessive. However, after watching i realized that the winning team wasn't trying to run up the score because they probably could have put up 200 points.

does it make it right, probably not but the way they scored in the second half was almost all layups. they were practically fast breaks with no defensive pressure at all. there were several fast breaks that they showed where they would pass the ball 3-4 times trying to let someone else score since there was no defense.

I lost a few basketball games very lopsidedly growing up. i do remember one game in 3rd grade the first year i played when we lost 46-6. I remember feeling upset that we lost but knew that we lost to a far superior team.

It appeared to me that the team who won couldn't miss a shot and the other team just had a bad game and couldn't make one. it's not like the losing team was smothered on defense because they were given several uncontested shots.

It's unfortunate that it had to be such a large win but at least i know now that they were not trying to embarass the other team. It would have been nice though to have seen some clock stalling.

The Big Show / superbowl
« on: February 01, 2009, 09:12:57 PM »
that was a pretty good game. nice that both teams had to come from behind and have big plays. i am a little sad that the cardinals didn't pull it out but santonio holmes sure represented THE Ohio State University.

The Big Show / Linebacker Refs
« on: December 22, 2008, 07:15:14 PM »
I'm sure everyone has heard about all the refs, especially umpires, that are making tackles in college and pro games.  Now, i could understand them panicking and trying to defend themselves but some of the angles just make it look like they are flat out looking to punish the ball carrier.

here is an angle of the lsu vs. south carolina game that makes me think he is the 12th man... (watch his footwork to be specific)
do you also notice how he keeps his shoulders square and explodes into the quarterback? thats a form tackle minus the wrap

next is the more recent one. the still photos on yahoo were very impressive. this one still has me thinking. at times i feel like he tries to get out of the way but the forearm shiver just makes me feel like he was gunning for him the entire time. trying to think back to when i played football if i was not involved and the play was coming towards me, i would try and "bounce" off and stay on my feet. this looks like he is really trying hard to knock the ballcarrier off his feet!

i still would like to know what is going through these refs' minds when the plays develop but it must be a little bit more than self defense ;D

The Big Show / How Bout them Beavers!!
« on: September 25, 2008, 11:44:09 PM »
the first osu couldn't beat usc but the second could.  great game to say the least. that was what everyone was saying about usc though, when they show up they play very well hence the disappointing losses to oregon state last two times and stanford last year. usc showed up in the rose bowl and ohio state games (although i believe that the game was closer than the score). quite a shake up in the bcs

The Big Show / no electricity
« on: September 17, 2008, 01:44:42 PM »
wow! it has been a pain in the but not being able to check the planet. we're on our fourth day of no power and it's been exciting. has there been anyone else without juice? when gustav blew through he took some trees and barn roofing with him. so, did i miss anything while i was gone? no big news or anything? it might be a couple days before i get back on because i don't really see us getting power anytime soon.

The Big Show / Kansas City and Louisville steer shows
« on: September 10, 2008, 08:51:39 PM »
it will be the first time to actually show a steer in a national show for me at kansas city and i was wondering if anyone knew the grooming rules for the steer show there and louisville..

also if anyone could tell me if you need to send in any dna or something for louisville. i sent in the packet for kc but didn't plan on going to louisville at the time. i looked at the naile premium book and it only says entry deadline is october 1. i'm not sure if he will make it to louisville since they mouth them there because he is a little older. any help would be great.

The Big Show / jumpers
« on: June 21, 2008, 09:58:48 PM »
i have a calf that i am starting to break and i am having an awfull time trying to keep it from jumping. it has been some time since i really worked with him but he has always been a jumper. i am pulling with constant pressure until he moves a foot forward and then i am letting off the pressure. most of the time he starts pulling back and '' coiling'' when i start pulling harder and then jumps all of a sudden. once he jumps i just try to pull him back down and he just continues to jump for a couple seconds. it has become very frustrating and i was wondering if anyone knew anybetter ways of trying to solve this problem. he is not crazy or bad acting, just jumping. any help would be great.
