The Big Show / Some Shorty Bulls
« on: October 04, 2014, 06:20:45 PM »
I get bored every now and than at University and I like to look through bull and donor pedigrees.
I found these 5 bulls showing up quite a bit in some of the more showy donors:
Diamond Leggs 21
Creole 9590
HS Rodeo Drive
Prime Time Paymaster
Hill Haven Bold<(believe he's canadian)
Wondering if any of this semen is still available in canada.

The Big Show / Canada vs U.S. Shorthorn purity
« on: October 01, 2014, 11:43:52 AM »
Why does the CSA not consider full blood Maines 3/4 shorthorns like the ASA? I was considering purchasing a heifer by Red Reward, but when I checked her percentage with the CSA they told me she is only considered 65.4% shorthorn. Where as with the American shorthorn association she is considered a purebred.

Just curious as to why this bull isn't used much anymore. If he was available up north I would be willing to give him a try.

The Big Show / Beet pulp/pump?
« on: April 06, 2014, 05:25:29 PM »
I am showing a heifer in 2 weeks and I am struggling to keep her looking full and hydrated at home, (I can just imagine how she will look at the show). I have been giving her 2 extra lbs of beet pulp in her feed for the past month. I have just recently switched her ration to half beet pulp/ half regular ration. I would like to know if it would be a good idea and safe to start pumping her with a couple litres of electrolyte water after her feeding to get the beet pulp to expand.

What are everyone's thoughts on this supplement by oxygen? It contains several types and forms of yeast, aspergillus oryzae fermentation product ( vitaferm ), many other types of fermentation products and probiotics.

The Big Show / Help please
« on: March 24, 2014, 09:22:51 PM »
I have a heifer that I am showing on April 20th, the problem is she got ringworm about two months ago on her poll. Hair has just barely started growing back. I ordered in MTG to help with the hair growth. I would just like to know, if she doesn't grow enough hair in time for the show whether or not I should use horse hair to help " build " a poll?

The Big Show / Shorthorn breeding suggestion
« on: February 20, 2014, 06:36:09 PM »
I have a eyes on the money x pb shorthorn heifer that I would like to breed back pb shorthorn. In my opinion she lacks depth/ rib and needs her front cleaned up. I was thinking of using capiche.

I've attached a picture of her from September.

The Big Show / Irish whiskey

Is his semen is canada approved? Also could a guy just purchase a couple straws through griswolds sale and have it shipped north of the border through hawkeye to alta genetics?

The Big Show / Feeding a heifer that's needs more rib.
« on: October 06, 2013, 07:34:36 PM »
I am trying to be pro-active here. I have a heifer that needs some expansion to her rib, a bigger bellied look. There are a lot of posts on here about how to get fill in a heifer at a show, but what I would like to know is what in a feed program is crucial to developing a heifer with that "barrel bellied look". Do you want more fiber, energy or protein. I am feeding a ration similar to that of kent show grower with free choice grass hay.
