The Big Show / Souix Empire Hereford bull?

Has anyone seen any calves yet?

The Big Show / Houson steer show video?
« on: March 29, 2014, 11:07:39 AM »
It's not on stock show live, even though most of the rest of the show is.  I'd like to see some classes where steers I sold and other people I know were in.  Matter of fact, they don't have video up from San Antonio, or even Tulsa last fall (market steer shows anyway). I love the concept - not sure what the problem is but I hope they get it ironed out soon.

I heard some people say they watched Houston steer show live online, so I'm hoping there's archived video someone can direct me to.

The Big Show / bumper trailers
« on: December 17, 2012, 11:27:33 PM »
We're looking at buying a smaller bumper pull trailer, and have pretty much narrowed it down to 2 choices.  One is a 5' x 14', the other is a 6' x 12'.  The trailers are both WW's, equipped identically (same color even).  The 5' is a brand new '13 model, the 6' is an '09, but barely used, barn kept - like new condition.  The price (asking price anyway) is only $50 difference.  I can see the advantages of the 6' wide in being roomier for bigger framed cattle, though the intention for this trailer is mostly hauling calves anyway (we have 2 goosenecks).  The 5' trailer has the obvious advantages of being brand new, so there are tax advantages, and even though the other one is in great condition, the tires and floor are enough newer that they should last longer.  A new 6' wide trailer would be close to $1000 higher, but I'd still have to think if I did for some reason decide to sell it in the next few years the '13 would be worth more than the '09.  I'm leaning slightly toward the new trailer, but I'm still looking for opinions.  So what I'm asking you is this 1) Is there going to be any noticeable difference in the way the two trailers pull?,  and 2) I've never owned a 5' wide trailer - will I hate it?

The Big Show / Wes Stover Memorial Fund online sale
« on: August 08, 2012, 04:31:19 PM »
Just wanted to let everyone know about the Wes Stover Memorial Fund online sale on Breeders World.  If you knew Wes, you know he never hesitated to help anyone, anytime.  This is a great opportunity for us to give something back in his honor.  Also an excellent opportunity to purchase semen and embryo's, much of which is really hard to find, and some other neat things too.  Be sure to check it out.

The Big Show / Show steer numbers (poll)
« on: March 07, 2012, 02:14:10 PM »
Please keep in mind I'm asking only about steers, not heifers.  It might be interesting to do a similiar poll and compare them, but for the moment I need to know about steers.

Our county is considering some changes in it's premium sale, including the possibility of reducing the number of steers sold.  With that on our minds, I thought it would be interesting to see if there seems to be a trend elsewhere.  If you'd care to post your location and thoughts on the subject that'd be great.  Obviously I have some ideas of what's happening here and why, but I'd like to hear yours first.

The poll will close in 3 days, btw.

The Big Show / OCD in cattle? DL or anyone with info?
« on: April 21, 2011, 05:07:22 PM »
A (fallborn) steer we sold this spring has a knot on the inside of his right back leg, an inch or so in front of his hock.  Last I saw it (2 weeks ago) it was maybe the size of a shooting marble, and just felt like fluid - we assumed some kind of injury, and it didn't seem to bother him any.  He was hauled about 5 - 6 hours (tied where he could lay down, bedded with lots of chips) and they said it swelled to baseball size.  They took him to a vet who x-rayed it and diagnosed it as OCD.  I can't find anything about OCD in cattle (just dogs), and our local vet says it's conceivable, but doesn't seem as likely as an injury.  Not saying it couldn't be a structural issue, but he's got plenty of flex in his hock and pastern, and he's not really clubby bred. Anyone here know anything about OCD in cattle?

Archived Classifieds / Club calf cows selling 10-20-09 @ Clinton, OK
« on: October 12, 2009, 09:58:16 PM »
We'll be selling a tremendous set of 20 club calf cows and their spring born calves.   Mr. Kenneth Boggs has chosen to have a complete dispersal of his club calf herd. The cows range from 2 years old on up, the majority are black, with a few Charolais cross cows.  They are sired by Fullback, Full Flush, Who Made Who, Payback, Who's Your Daddy, Ice Pick, Dameron Raptor and others.  This is an extremely impressive set of cows, moderate sized, big bodied, thick, stout boned and powerful, with as good udders as you can find anywhere.  Some of these are donor quality females.  The calves at their sides include several really good heifers that could sure show, but are even better cow prospects.  There are also some steers that could show.  All of the calves are sired by (and the cows are bred back to) a 4 year old black Habanero son from Kris Black.  This bull will also sell.

I'll try to get some pictures taken and posted later this week - words in no way do these cows justice, but I didn't have a camera with me when I looked at them.

They will be selling at 12 noon on October 20th, at the Clinton Livestock Auction on Hwy 183 just north of Clinton, OK.

The Big Show / Irish Pride semen value?
« on: April 22, 2009, 11:05:13 PM »
A friend of mine had a semen tank go bad.  Fortunately his insurance company is going to cover the value of the contents.  We've been able to find a current price on most everything that was in it, except for a Shorthorn bull called Irish Pride.  Beyond having heard of him, I know nothing.  Does anyone know anything about (or would even be willing to hazard a guess) what it might be worth?  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Archived Classifieds / Rags To Riches
« on: January 11, 2009, 11:14:51 PM »
Thought I'd throw out a plug for my friends'  Rags To Riches pasture sale.  The calves will be bid off on January 25, and are available for viewing from now 'til sale day at TK Cattle.  This is a really impressive set of fall borns - the top end of several proven club calf producing herds.  Lots of color, too.  There will be a few spring and summer borns available, too.

Here's the web page   http://www.tkcattle.com/ragstoriches.html

Feel free to call Tad, Cody, Justin or Greg, or you can pm me here if there's anything we can help you with.

A couple of pics - there are lots more on the website, and I'll try to post a few more select ones as we get 'em.

The Big Show / What are you listening to?
« on: November 09, 2008, 10:09:47 PM »
Some of the other forums I participate in have some form of a what are you listening to now thread, so I thought we might give it a try here.  It's always fun to know what others are listening to, and maybe learn about some new stuff we might like.  We don't need lyrics or links to videos, just a song and/or album title and the artist,  maybe a little discussion.  It can be whatever's playing at the moment, the CD you've been listening to in the barn or in your truck, or just the song that's been stuck in your head all day.  Like this -

The Big Show / F350 Political humor
« on: January 23, 2008, 10:09:57 AM »
Political funny......
I bought a new Ford F-350 crew cab and returned to the
dealer the next day because I couldn't get the radio to
work. The salesman explained that the radio was voice
"Nelson," the salesman said to the radio. The radio
replied,"Ricky or Willie?" "Willie!" he continued and "On
The Road Again" came from the speakers. Then he said, "Ray
Charles!", and in an instant " Georgia On My Mind" replaced
 Willie Nelson.
I drove away happy, and for the next few days, every time
I'd say, "Beethoven," I'd get beautiful classical music,
and if I said, "Beatles,"I'd get one of their awesome songs.

Yesterday, a couple ran a red light and nearly creamed my
new truck, but I swerved in time to avoid them. I yelled,
"Idiots!" Immediately the French National Anthem began to
play, sung by Jane Fonda and Barbara Streisand, backed up
by Michael Moore and The Dixie Chicks, with John Kerry on
guitar, Al Gore on drums, Dan Rather on harmonica, Nancy
Pelosi on tambourine, Harry Reid on spoons, Bill Clinton on
sax and Ted Kennedy on Scotch.

 I LOVE this truck!!!

The Big Show / Lawn tractors
« on: May 31, 2007, 09:52:02 AM »
I know this is way off topic, so mods, pull it if you want. But I figured this would be a good place to ask, because people here are most likely to use ( ok...abuse ) it in the same way I do.

Our 7 year old Murray (aka WalMart special) is on it's last legs, which is a good 3 years longer than I expected it to last, but anyway leaves me in the market for a new mower. I'd love to have a zero turn, but I haven't found any that I like that I'm willing to spend that much money on. I want to buy it locally (within 20 miles anyway - lol) so that leaves me the usual choices; MTD (WalMart), Poulan, Snapper (no thanks), Husqvarna, John Deere, Cub Cadet, or Massey Ferguson (Simplicity).
Anybody got (or have used) any of these? Particularly if you especially like or dislike it, tell me about it.

I'm looking for a 48" deck and a two cylinder motor,(and an absolute max of $2500, preferably under $2000) and it looks to me right now the most for my money would be the Husqvarna, so any input on that would be appreciated.
