The Big Show / urgent security needed
« on: November 28, 2008, 06:13:23 PM »
i'm tellin ya that new calves at our house is like feedin time at the zoo. we have desperately needed some kind of security camera system at our house for the past 3 days. we have neighbors and relatives showing up unannounced so they can get a sneak preview at the competition. it's getting really ridiculous. we are concerned about someone coming and doing something to the calves when we aren't here. it's happened before.

so, i need some input. any suggestions on what to get?? we're looking for something on the inexpensive side, like $125 or less. we just need a basic camera. not a full-on fort knox lockdown.  ;D  although, that would be awesome!!

i might've found something that would work for us. thanks for all future help.

what are some quirks of your cattle? my 2 market heifers LOVE to lap the water in the buckets. it's like they have to search for it, and barely test the water with their tongue.  :P i just find it absolutely hilarious!! although i get really wet sometimes.... ::) ;D

The Big Show / AI technique
« on: June 30, 2008, 04:10:21 PM »
i was cleaning up the barn office the other day, and i moved the AI box. i started thinking about some of the problems that we had with the gun. everything connected fine, but sometimes the straw of semen would be stuck inside the gun. the straw wouldn't lock into the sleeve after we twisted it on. we'd have to dig it out, and because it didn't seal, the gun would get all wet with the leaked semen. whenever this happened, we put another straw in the cow. most times, this 2nd attempt would be fine, as far as no leakage.

so, what's up? bad sleeves, straws, technique.....

The Big Show / PETA demonstrators are CRAZY!!!

DES MOINES, Iowa -- PETA officials announced Wednesday they're planning a "nearly naked" protest in downtown Des Moines on Thursday.

The "Meat is Murder" protest is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Nollen Plaza.

PETA officials said the protest will include nearly naked people lying on large trays.  The people will be covered in clear plastic wrap and signs reading "Meat is Murder."

PETA officials said the protest is a response to the 20th annual World Pork Expo happening this week at the State Fairgrounds.

"We are challenging people to really think about what 'meat' is," said PETA Manager of Vegan Campaigns Lindsay Rajt, in a press release. "Eating flesh means eating the corpse of a tortured animal who did not want to die. We're encouraging kind consumers to give vegetarianism a try."

these people crack me up.  ;D  ::)

ROCKY BALBOA
OUR NEXT CALVING EASE KNOCKOUT!

$20/unit
SIRE: Ali
DAM: Who Made Who
DOB: March 1, 2006
BW: 60 pounds, unassisted, first calf heifer
BRED BY: Bob Hine
TH Free • PHA Free

Rocky Balboa is a calving ease alternative to Ali that offers a hair coat similar to that of a Scotch Highlander. He calved unassisted out of a first calf heifer and had a birthweight of 60 pounds. For those looking for another calving ease option, Rocky is at the top of many breeder's lists. With a perfect blend of Ali's calving ease and Who Made Who's maternal power, it's a no-brainer to make Rocky part of your breeding plans this year!

is anyone else having troubles with him? my uncle just pulled a 120 lb. calf. everyone else around us has been having troubles with him of at least double his claimed birthweight. one our friends has a cow that hip locked and died. out vet said that he is having so much trouble with them this year.

the problem is that the calves are all nice and slender until you get to the hips. they are huge!! we have a couple cows that are bred to him, and now we are worried.
