The Big Show / This Year's Show Bull
« on: October 16, 2018, 10:23:51 AM »
I thought we'd dig a bit deeper this year for the National Angus show we are hosting in Manitoba so I went to the pasture and pull this guy from 45 pairs in mid august.  N7's Sandman 17D is a son of SAV Resource (I know, another resource son. boring).  His dam is a daughter of Tokach Update 9009. Semen is available for sale (Canada, US, Australia for now). Pics of Sandman and his Dam below.

Our show is next Thursday October 25th . If anyone is interested it will be broadcast on www.liveauctions.tv

The Big Show / NYK Bull Pictures
« on: January 10, 2018, 08:55:17 AM »
It finally warmed up enough to snap some pictures of the bulls.  One kid is sleeping in the idling side by side about 10 feet in front of the bulls and another is watching movies in the barn while my wife and I frantically try to clean up bulls and take pictures.  Life with little kids is all kinds of fun!

The Big Show / SAV Resource Herdsire
« on: November 01, 2017, 07:43:20 AM »
I know another Resource post  ::) but I always find it interesting to look at an animal at their 3 stages of development all side by side.  Here's my SAV Resource son NYK MacGyver 5C as a calf, as a yearling, and as a 2 year old.  All pics taken at the end of October at MB Ag-Ex.

p.s. I apologize in advance for using a watermarked image.  Never got it ordered at the time and forgot about it.

The Big Show / New Donor Cows
« on: September 20, 2017, 09:15:54 AM »
We've acquired 2 new donor cows this fall from my Parents herd that I intend to flush in the spring/winter.  Looking for some marketable suggestions for Angus specifically but open to other ideas.
Cow#1 - N7's Mary KT 30Y: Sire SAV Net Worth, Maternal Grandsire N Bar Emulation EXT
She's as powerful as you can make an angus. Docility is her downfall.  Manageable and has been shown plenty but certainly
not a pet.  Successful past matings to Shipwheel Montana(S Chisum), Burns Blaster(MOGCK Bullseye), SAV Pioneer. SAV
Resource didn't click as well on her as most of our other cows.  Too much power.
Cow#2 - N7's Mary KT 12W: Sire TC Stout 407 (TC Freedom), Maternal Grandsire Boyd Beefmaker (Future Direction)
In my opinion she profiles as the ideal angus cow, just maybe 1 size bigger than necessary.  Perfect feet and udder.  Good
docility, and more than adequate thickness.

The Big Show / Herd Bull
« on: August 08, 2017, 11:17:32 AM »
Stopped in at my parents' place for a tour and snapped a couple pics of one of the herd bulls.  I posted them on Facebook and it seems to have stirred up some conversation so I thought I would share here.  Sired by SAV Pioneer off a TC Stout 407 cow.  2014 model so he's 3.

The Big Show / Best Deal you've found!
« on: August 30, 2016, 10:17:10 AM »
Grant's post got me thinking.  What's the best "deal" you've ever found.  A diamond in the rough that you brought home and really worked out for you?  Post yours!

I've had a couple but the best was this cow, Soo Line Georgina 1101Y was the best deal for sure.  Bought her for HALF of the sale average as a bred heifer and she has done nothing but improve my herd since.  Her sons have been high sellers and herd builders.  Luck was on my side that day.  I just need her to spit out some daughters.

The Big Show / Been Hiding this one...

Here's a heifer I've been keeping in my back pocket all summer.  What do you think?  Good enough for the show road?

The Big Show / Summer Show Pics
« on: July 26, 2016, 09:51:17 AM »
The summer shows here in Manitoba are in the books.  We've had one of our best runs ever.  Now it's time to start making plans for the big fall shows but before that I thought I'd share some pics of the string.

First Pic is CAM POLL Xpressive 012X (EXLR Total Control) and her Feb bull calf NYK Hades 13D (Amaglen Zeus).  She was Champion Limousin Female at every single show she attended and was Supreme Female over all breeds 3 times.

Second Pic is N7's Lass 152Z (N7's Net Worth 92U) and her March heifer calf NYK Lass 17D (NYK Graceland 39B).  She was Champion Angus Female at 4 out of 5 shows including our provinicial show, and was supreme female over all breeds at the largest show, Harding Fair which has earned her a trip to the RBC Supreme Challenge at Canadian Western Agribition!

Third pic is NYK Miss Eva 32B (HF Kodiak 5R) and her feb hfr calf (Baldridge Download).  She placed first in class at 6 shows and 2nd once and was named Reserve Champion Angus Female at our provincial show.

Fourth pic is a January heifer calf, NYK Tibbie 3D (Shipwheel Montana).  She also placed first in class at 6 shows and 2nd once.  She was heifer calf Champion at our provincial show and also won an all breeds championship at another show.

Last pic is a poor pic of my Angus yearling bull NYK MacGyver 5C (SAV Resource).  He was Champion angus bull at 3 shows, Supreme Champ at one show and Reserve Champion Angus Bull at our summer provincial show.  Most importantly he bred all of my best cows and looks reasonably good considering his workload.

We're awfully proud of the group this year and I think they will only get better by fall.

The Big Show / Pasture Pics from NYK *pic heavy
« on: July 07, 2016, 09:25:11 AM »
Been snapping some pics on my cell lately of the cows.  Thought I'd share.  Some pretty promising young cows in this bunch and some good old proven girls too.

The Big Show / Something Different - Limousin Show Heifer
« on: December 17, 2015, 03:42:26 PM »
I usually share some pics of my Angus cattle that I show but I wanted to share this purebred Limousin heifer we exhibited this year.  She was Grand Champion Limousin Female or Reserve Female at every show she was exhibited in MB also placing in several Jackpot shows throughout the summer.  At Agribition she was Breed Champion in the First Lady Classic Jackpot.  Owned by Campbell Land and Cattle and exhibited/managed by NYK Cattle Co.

The Big Show / Bismarck Female - Flush Ideas
« on: November 10, 2015, 08:55:53 AM »
Well I've done the unthinkable and offered up my favorite cow on the farm for sale.  We're offering a flush on her and now I'm getting all kinds of questions on what she should be flushed to.  You guys on Steerplanet are usually good at coming up with some creative ideas.  If you happen to have any interest in the flush or her calf (it's a choice lot) or questions feel free to PM me.

Any suggestions welcome.  Since the purchaser get ALL of the embryos, I have no breed preference.

The Big Show / Fall is here. Show Time!
« on: September 10, 2015, 09:40:29 AM »
After chores last night I snapped some pics of the show cattle.  I finally got them all sorted and up to the yard so I thought I'd share.  First pics of the pair I am showing.

Three year old Angus cow with a March 20 heifer calf.

The Big Show / Photos from the Great White North (pic heavy)
« on: March 05, 2015, 07:47:41 AM »
It's been -30 or colder here for almost 3 weeks without a break so I haven't accomplished much other than taking some pictures.  The cows and calves seem happy regardless of the weather.

The Big Show / Got the Bulls Pictured
« on: January 19, 2015, 11:09:10 AM »
With the amazing weather we've had over the past week, I finally got the bulls clipped and pictured.  What do you think?  Which one would you pick?

p.s. more pictures of the "Great Canadian Wind Fence" for Librarian and Oakview

The Big Show / Flush Option for Angus Cow?
« on: December 31, 2014, 11:26:33 AM »
OK Steerplanet, we're planning on flushing our National Champion Cow.  Any great ideas for sires to flush her to?  Realistically we will be flushing to an Angus bull but I'm open to other suggestions (if only for interests sake).  Don't just throw out names, I'd like to know "why" as well.

FYI cow is sired by TC Stout (son of TC Freedom x VRD 7078).  No preference towards bulls or heifers.  Just need to be good and marketable.
