The Big Show / UPDATED: What type of cows to breed Monopoly to?
« on: January 04, 2018, 05:47:45 PM »
I havn't found any posts on here from the last 5 years about this topic, but you are still constantly seeing Monopoly calves come to the top at shows.  So that got me wondering what cows he is working best on these days?

The Big Show / Supplements that you swear by?
« on: October 11, 2017, 05:13:52 PM »
With the millions of supplements (powders, pastes and pellets) on the market by Sullivans (fresh and feminine, stretch, winning fill, keep n on, sure champ, juiced), Purina (ultra full, depth charge, fitter 35), Stand Alone, and countless others, it is often hard to sort through which ones are worth the money, while still being palatable.

Which ones do you find beneficial to feed on a daily basis, leading up to or during a show, or in certain circumstances that you find make a noticeable difference?

The Big Show / Re: Best Stops to look at Sale Calves in KS, NE, SD?
« on: August 22, 2017, 05:25:38 PM »
Wow, there are probably 50 places that you could stop.

Is there anything specific about what you are looking for?

Breed? Not too particular, ideally something black or white (smokes are okay too). Reds and painted up ones don't do well where I am at. If a purebred, probably Simmental, char or even a limo if she's good enough.
Registered? Ideally, but I'll look at a good commercial
Breeding or Market? I'm looking for a breeding heifer, but I like my heifers big ribbed, and with some bone and foot size.
Certain genetics? No  preference but I'm not a huge  Laurier lover in the clubby deal
Age? January or February. The younger ones always get passed over in my area.
Price Range? 5-10. But I'm flexible if she's good enough.

Give a little more information and maybe I can help you.

Thank you!

« on: August 20, 2017, 11:03:52 AM »
I am going to be driving through Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota and am shopping for a show heifer for the coming year.  I am wondering where the best places to stop and look at top quality calves are.  I want to make sure I don't miss anyone.

The Big Show / Trailers: Eby vs Wilson
« on: June 15, 2017, 11:11:25 PM »
I am currently shopping for a new aluminum trailer, most likely a 16' Bumper pull. I have found two that I like the looks of and have heard good things about, an Eby and a Wilson. The prices are comparable so I'm wondering about the differences, in quality and durability, or any things that you'd change about either. Thanks in advance!

The Big Show / 1/2 Chute Styles
« on: May 04, 2017, 10:06:47 AM »
I am looking at buying a new chute and I saw Sullivans has their half chute that does not have a top or back part to it and I am wondering if anyone has any experience with these?  I was thinking that they would be nice since you don't have those extra bars getting in your way.  Does anyone feel that those bars are absolutely necessary?

The Big Show / Canadian Cluf Calf Semen Distributers
« on: March 14, 2017, 01:04:41 PM »
I am wondering who all in Canada is distributing club calf semen.  Whether it be a company, or an individual, I am having trouble locating a few different bulls that I know are approved for Canada.

The Big Show / Heifer keeps losing neck sweat nose band
« on: February 16, 2017, 02:36:56 PM »
I have a heifer that is wearing a Sullivan's black heat neck sweat, with a leather neck sweat over top. Within an hour in the pen, she has her nose band off.  Has anyone found any solutions to this?

The Big Show / Re: Updated - Daily Hair Care Products
« on: January 16, 2017, 07:53:42 PM »
search Show Coat

I'm not interested in Show Coat. IMHO I just don't find the product worth the money,  I'll stick to good old fashioned elbow grease for growing hair. For this post, I'm interested in an affordable concoction for keeping their hair and hide conditioned and healthy.

The Big Show / Updated - Daily Hair Care Products
« on: January 16, 2017, 04:19:23 PM »
I have used a lot of different things for daily hair care products over the years, and I just wanted to see what other people use.  I have searched through this site, but havn't really found any posts from the last five years and just thought I would see if people are still trusting the same old Kleen Sheen, zoom bloom, vinegar, etc mixtures, or if they are using some new combinations.

If you or anyone you know will be making this trip, I'd love to work out something

The Big Show / Re: Help! Lump on Heifer
« on: August 25, 2016, 04:36:47 PM »
That's really debatable and I would talk to a vet.  There are a lot of different antibiotics out there, and Draxxin is not only ridiculously expensive, but depending on what you are treating, it is not always the best option.

As far as the lump goes, cold compact on it, maybe some metacam, but the best thing for it is time.  I've had heifers have them never go away.
