The Big Show / Re: Speakers/radios at shows
« on: October 18, 2017, 09:30:40 AM »
I have to admit, there were some fitters at the last show we went to and no lie, the speakers were the size you'd see on concert stage. Rap music blaring. Probably a little big for what the OP is  looking for. To walk around and take in what the eyes are seeing  compared to what the ears are hearing is .......nvrmd.
We just use a beat up Dewalt const. radio. Puts out plenty of sound. 2 for one, music and  keeps our cordless batteries charged at home for the roto brush.

The Big Show / Feed Question
« on: October 17, 2017, 07:47:18 AM »
What is the best bagged feed in today's market? Have been feeding Show Rite (Throttled Up) the last couple years and the quality in my personal has just diminished greatly!  Nothing like it was.... say 2 years ago!!

The Big Show / S Rice Bran vs Power Fuel

I've read posts on here about both products and understand you can't use both in conjuction with one another.  My question...is one more superior than the other or both basically the same thing?

I appreciate the response, makes sense to me. We use it as it was suggested to aid with spring of the rib and to lower the gut.

The Big Show / Implant strategy/suggestions
« on: February 21, 2017, 11:11:58 PM »
Looking for suggestions on what Revalor implant, as there are several I should use in this scenario. Revalor bc I have the gun.
Have a steer weighing 980lbs. He's sound with 102 days to go for our terminal show. He's maxed out @ 24lbs feed (Show Rite Throttled Up) with 2 big scoops of cottonseed hulls and 16oz Power Fuel all split in a morning and evening feeding. Typically wouldn't implant at this stage but I think we're going to need a bump. Have 3 jackpot shows between now and our final show. Daughters last year in so trying to make it count. Our normal ADG with this much traveling is not going to happen. Looking to weigh in somewhere around 1350 June 2nd. Thanks for any suggestions

Daughter had a 4-H steer out of Troubadour year before last. Craziest thing I've ever been around. He would take on anyone and anything..tractors and all. Pulled on the halter so hard that it cut threw the top of his nose where you couldn't see the rope and nvr phased him a second. When it was feeding time he'd back up in the corner..trying to climb the wall in reverse and you'd better have your sht right when you entered. First steer we've never been able to break. Needless to say he went sale barn.
I remember showing myself in 4-H back in the 80's. I had some crazy dang Charolais but always managed to get them in the show ring. There were many a steer from my fellow 4-Hers back then that were sold on the trailer bc they didn't want anyone getting killed.
I think the steers put out today (for the most part) are much more manageable than back then but that's just IMO.

The Big Show / Farmers Almanac "Best Days"
« on: January 10, 2017, 03:46:14 PM »
I've read on here about ppl using the Almanac's "best days"  for "cutting hair to encourage growth" on show cattle. Anyone with personal experience on this? Sounds interesting. Looks like Jan 2017 days are 2, 3, 30 and 31. Feb 3,4,27. Do you just pick a month and do it one time per winter? When "cutting" are you clipping the animal as if you were at a show or bringing the hair down much shorter to the body. From some old posts I read, results were quite positive. No specific directive on how they go about it though. Strange questions I'm sure but thought I'd throw it out there. Thanks
