Has anyone had any calves out of the shorthorn bull Blenview Chaser 204C offered through Semex?

I wouldn't see why there wouldn't be a DNA test for Shorthorns if there are DNA tests for many multiple other breeds out there that produce both horned and polled cattle.

Looks real good. With weights like that, who needs Limousine!?  ;)

Haha! Well thanks! We are super excited about him. I just wish we had more Shorts to breed him to. (Growing pains) We have a couple heifer calves this year that are just looking on point so far. I'm really interested to see what they look like coming weaning time.

We haven't weighed him this year (I think he'd be too long for our scale) but if I were to guess, it wouldn't surprise me if he was in that 2500lb-2600lb range.

The Big Show / Shorthorn Herdsire - Lehne Royal 213B
« on: May 10, 2017, 02:14:05 PM »
I'm just tooting my own horn here, but we are super excited with our Shorthorn herdsire. We purchased him as a calf off his dam in the fall of 2014. He's had exceptional calving ease paired with really exceptional growth. All his progeny have been extremely easy fleshing and an absolute pleasure to work with. The two son's that we kept last fall had bw's of 89lbs each and weaned off right at 707lb and 781lb mark with no creep. Their yearling weight's have been exceptional as well, both in that 1350lb mark. Unfortunately we only got one daughter that was a 1/2 blood, but we kept her as well. She's a Shorthorn x Limo cross. She was an 83lb BW with a 770lb WW. I've attached a photo of Royal from this past fall shown at farmfair as well as a cell phone snapshot from a week or so ago now. I've also attached photo's of his two son's that we sold this spring. They were taken when they where 10 months old.

Sire: Saskvalley Yosemite Sam 3Y
Dam: Forest Hall Raggedy Anne 213T

The Big Show / Re: Using CIDRs to Improve Pregnancy Rates
« on: March 31, 2017, 08:05:56 PM »
I have better luck both AIing off of natural heats and implanting embryos using natural standing heats. What are other peoples experiences? I often wonder if the Cidrs cause some minor infections and therefore reduce conception rates.

We have found the same. I would say that cidrs do improve the rates, but we've had much better luck with a product called super sync. No cidrs involved at all. We do try to AI on natural heats as well, but we all work off the farm so we don't always catch them.

I really like this guy. He comes from some pretty awesome cow lines. Congrats on raising him! I can't wait to see offspring from him.

The Big Show / BISS Element 79 - Milking Females
« on: March 19, 2017, 05:12:18 PM »
Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has milking females from Element? Just hoping to get opinions on udder structure, teat structure and milking production. Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.  :)
