The Big Show / Re: Where have all the readers/posters gone?
« on: January 23, 2019, 07:50:08 PM »
For me personally, life got in the way.  I always thought I was "busy", but learned that I actually wasn't until we started having kids.  It is amazing the energy that was once focused on other tasks outside my job, seemingly disappear when your running around chasing kids.

I do think messageboards have seen a decline, they are competing for your attention against other social media outlets.  They still do have their place and are a great wealth of knowledge in specific topics.

I was just looking at the visitor stat reports, and even though people are not engaged in posting, the #s are still pretty strong for people viewing the site.  We still average around 50k unique visitors a month.

I think I got rid of most of those problems, had to get more aggressive with an ip ban range.  Just a constant barrage of bots try to register on the forum and classifieds, the forum has good software that takes care of it, but the classifieds I use an ip range to block.

We had some good friends that had twins that decided to come quite a bit earlier than they were expected.  Prayers that they grow, stay healthy, and get to come home soon.   (angel)

I've been off of the grid for awhile and this is the first time I've had a chance to get on here. Terry is recuperating slowly as you would expect. Yes he is a tough old bugger, but here is the rest of the story. The majority of the donors that he had left within days of his being hurt and have not returned. The "ranch manager" that runs the place he is living on is threatening to throw him and his family off the ranch even though his family has stepped up and taken care of most of the day to day work that Terry would normally be doing as part of his rent agreement. The Readers Digest version of this story is that Terry and his family need help to survive. He is far too proud to ask anyone for help and I'm sure that I will get a good sized piece of my hind side chewed off for this. So here I am asking the multitude of Steer Planet families to help one who has helped so many over the years. If Jason could come up with some sort of a fundraising Steer Planet "auction" that would be a huge bonus. So, I encourage you to start thinking about what you could donate, especially those of us who Terry has helped over the years. Let's get the ball rolling! RW

Yes, I am definitely in.  Lets get together on the details, pm sent.

I'm done, for the "best" conference, the big 12 always lays an egg in the ncaa tournament.

We have used ESPN the last 5 years, thought I would set it up again as most people already have login info.  Looks like quite a few people have already signed up from last year.
