Het Black bulls I like the bulls from the Dominance line, Harkers Crusader or HARKERS/JS DOMINATION look good. Crusader semen is available from http://www.c-morbeef.com/herdsires.htm and Domination is on Cattle Visions.

The Big Show / Re: LTS Entourage Female -- Breeding Advice needed

We had six Grandmaster calves out of Bred Heifers that all releate back to Dream On this year with no issues at all 65-75 lbs. Absolutely loved their early vigor or get up and go. The calves all look pretty good at this point being about a month old. The only complaint I've heard about him is that some are saying they don't get big enough as cows. We will use him again this year on opens.

Bloat blocks help. Try to get them out at least day before.

Meyer 734 x Angus halfbloods , registered , polled , good Angus gentetics on that side. Then either bred back up to purebred Simmys or kept on with the halfblood deal. Would have stayed away from anything that was just average. Quality is much easier to live with then quantity !
Good answer, I would agree on quality over quantity. Breeding up is an option but with show cattle, most of us don't have the patience. Good maternal genetics can make a lot of bulls look good!

The Big Show / Re: "The One" Sim Sale
« on: January 17, 2012, 06:20:52 AM »
Those of us watching online only got to see about 2/3 or the sale so if there were specific lots you were looking at we may be able to fill you in? Just glad I was not trying to bid online.....

I assume NWSS and Eberspachers will have results up at some point.

Why does sale managers commit to doing the online broadcasts, but then auction continues if there are issues with the online broadcast? I realize they are all there and they just want to keep on going, but shouldn't they respect the audience online watching the sale? I think from comments last night internet was lost in the ring to cause the outage which sounds like a good enough reason to slow things down a little?

Interesting Buck. Here is one to compare to from Illinois that I had on a trail camera in early October.

Congrats! Looks like things worked out pretty well.

Most of the results are up on illinois state fair site.

The Big Show / Re: rock salt - capitalism - disgust

Funny thing about deer hunters.... I think they are even more obsessed than us poor cattle people. They can spend money toward their obsession like its water, so to them a buck a pound for a salt rock is a minor expense. Seems like we all need a trophy to hang our hat on ours is just on the end of a halter rather than on the wall.

In illinois the last time I checked it is illegal to use bait/mineral/salt for deer, but boy at the Farm and Home there is a giant deer mineral display.

The Big Show / Pic New PB Simm bull Calf
« on: May 24, 2011, 03:14:24 PM »
Calf was born yesterday out of a PB Simmental cow and our herd bull. Usually hard to get a good pic with a calf, but boy this one was looking pretty good for day one and thought I should share. Lets just hope he continues to impress us like he did on day one.

Try this site. Lots of good articles and information.

Another option would be to find some show videos on YouTube to see some shows first hand.

The Big Show / Re: Plugged Sheath or Faulty plug?
« on: May 18, 2011, 05:32:55 PM »
Thanks for the info Terry. The gun is the type that is threaded at the top where you have to twist the sheath on. Always a pain to get the sheath seated all the way on to the gun where the plug is at the end of the sheath like it should be with those darned threads. And the straw does not really protrude from the gun at all. This type of gun is what I was taught with and to date really have not had any problems to speak of, so I am still not sure what really happened. I will make sure every thing goes together correctly from now on so thanks again for the info. 21 days will tell....

The Big Show / Plugged Sheath or Faulty plug?
« on: May 18, 2011, 08:05:07 AM »
I bred a heifer this morning and noticed after breeding that some of the semen was above the plug in the straw? Wasn't very much maybe 1/4 or less.  I guess the plug could have been faulty as well since I did not notice any resistance when I pushed the plunger in? Anyone had this happen? Trying to decide if I should use another straw on her?
