The Big Show / Re: Cloning bulls
« Last post by knabe on January 08, 2021, 04:33:31 AM »
From what Ive heard, the clones obtained from Semem turned out to be from the extender  donor

The idea is that there are autonomic cells from the bull sling with the semen.

Semen itself will not clone since its haploid and there is no doubler that works on mammalian cells like there is in plants.

Okay. I think the aurochs had lousy dispositions anyway.

If someone has really got to clone a Shorthorn, how about Coronet Max Leader, or Catalyst 20th, or Weston Trademark, or President 26A....something sound with good carcass quality.
The second picture is 26A. Are there any other photos of him? He does not look full grown in this picture.
Max Leader weighed over 2400 lbs, that surprises me.

For the record, I still think cloning will only proliferate a new set of mistakes by re-application of poor judgement to good genetics....but maybe not.

Ted Sherbeck at Ansley, NB ( Bent Spear Stock Farm) has about 1200 units of Kenmar President 26A ( Maxi Brute). I tried to buy some last year, and he would not sell it. He wanted me to flush cows to it and he would take half the embryos for supplying the semen... Needless to say, he still has it all.
Kenmar President 26A now available. https://www.facebook.com/Sherbeck-Farms-104143464975511

I almost bought a full sister to the dam of the Harvey bull a couple years ago.
She went to Lake Front Ranch in North Dakota. Here is a link to their bull sale.
http://www.lakefrontranchshorthorns.com/uploads/5/0/0/8/50080975/lfr_shorthorns.pdf

To me ,Harvey looks like a good dual purpose bull...more milking type than beef. The first picture is Hillview Hobo, (not related, just similar type). He is an older Dual Purpose bull.
The second is 32Z with Harvey Fulton himself ( my idea of a pin-up)
The third is 26A.
I don't understand why Harvey the bull looks so tall. I would expect him to be short. Maybe someone can explain this.
But, judge him by his daughters...I bet there will be some good ones. I think his usefulness would be to invigorate the Native cattle, but he's not pure Native so those folks won't want him.

26A wasn't a big bull but he definitely was not a frame score 4.  I have attached a couple mature pictures because it seems the only picture out there is probably a yearling picture.

The Big Show / Re: Finding semen on old bulls
« Last post by JohnWayne72 on January 07, 2021, 11:42:45 PM »
I had a question on the old shorthron bull KENMAR President 26a  X3411494. Was his nickname maxi brute? He was born in 1969. I was thinking Don Stout owned him at one time and all the bull calves were named maxi-brutes. 26A was sired by Kinnaber Leader 9th. Are kenmar and kinnaber different herds? As to your question Endless Meadows I am also interested. I think there are some old breeders who have semen all over but don't know anyone wants it. It would probably in amps and not straws. I used to have semen on the ready go but as a kid I know I finally tossed it. He was homo polled. I think Gus Lippert owned him last I knew in the say the early 80's. If it only cost 20,000 to clone an animal wouldn't abs or someone clone say Coronet Leader 21st? Maybe you can't clone from semen. All their epd's suck for growth so the guys doing smoke and mirrors with unsustainable growth epd's wouldn't be interested in the old bulls. Great topic !

Our 26A semen is in straws.  https://www.facebook.com/Sherbeck-Farms-104143464975511

I have a question for the group.  I have seen some pictures of old cattle (60's 70's) that are pretty interesting and in some circles these older genetics are making a comeback.  I was wondering if anyone knew how to go about finding semen on these old bulls?  Thanks

Kenmar President 26A is now available. Check out https://www.facebook.com/Sherbeck-Farms-104143464975511  We also have a double bred son of Deerpark Leader 4th.

What is the best way to obtain the Maxi Brute influence? Is there a son that semen is available on? Does Marty have one. I know dad had 3 maxibrute  sons he bought from the Stouts.

Maxi Brute is now avaiable.  Check out https://www.facebook.com/Sherbeck-Farms-104143464975511 .  We also have a son who goes back to Ball Dee Perfect Count on the dam side.

Based on what I have seen here and at Lovings, if Ted ever opens the floodgates Maxi Brute will be a dominant sire in the breed again.

MaxiBrute semen is now available.  Check out https://www.facebook.com/Sherbeck-Farms-104143464975511

First one is Jungles Hector son on their Durhams-Dakotas Sale coming up and who will be at Oklahoma City-Hes out of a North Dakota State orange blossom one of the top families developed there over 100 plus years The other two are Hector last year or so-Terrible renditions I had to do this quick-If you have Jungels catalog-The Jungles bull is a marked improvement over Hector in terms of the pictures- and looks very good considering  but has the same weird head almost looks a little fleckviegh-Again JMO Hector just isnt in the same league or shall we call it type of the bull pictured from the semen embryo distributor in Brazil and winning in what looks like the  Argentina national show or something  Probably not available-Id use the jungles bull hands down O0

His sire would be the one to get semen imported.  Alson polar prince is great.  He is in ARG Hector  pedigree and for that it makes hector intriguing.  Easiest way to access these outcross genetics.  I think JSF has a hector son coming out in OKC
Wish i could be there to see him. If ya'all gotake and post some pics.
