our school show is in a month.. i'm used to gilts but got a barrow. he weighs good but hasn't put on the muscle like he's put on the fat. he's completely back on his front hocks but the shavings at my school show are extremely thick so it won't be noticeable. i have him with 2 pounds of feed, 3/4 pound of soaked beet pulp, 1/3 pound of oats and dial in. he's filled out some but depth charge doesn't work for me. i'm not sure how to put some more muscling and filler in on him. he runs, corner crawls and doesn't respond to the whip either. i've tried everything but he just won't walk!!! i've won my class and placed 3rd overall for the past two years but i don't think he'll make sale this year if he doesn't learn to walk or put on muscle. what should i do?

just from the picture i wouldn't say that he has to much finish. hogs are very easy to get to hard. If it were one of our hogs he would be on 672 which is a combo 632 and 685 mix. with the oats with some milk replacer of some sort, all wet fed. then top dress with some fitter 35 which is a 35% protein supplement from honor chow. I really don't like feeding beet pulp at home just cause its more of a filler and really doesn't work to put weight on one. I think he really could still use some cover and finish to him.

As far as the walking pen Id pull it in, as you say he doesn't respond well to the whip still. What i mean by that we always walk in a pretty confined walking pen about 4 ft wide and 30 ft long. This help to really confine then and work on the little things getting them to respond to the whip not being able to really ever get away from ya. In a bigger pen that is the issue. Every couple of days if he gets better widen the pen out and keep working.
Hope this helps.
