I saw it on the colyer facebook page this morning. I didnt read your article but I would gather that Sullivans bought him since it says Dunlap IA. There was some info on the syndicate too. Pretty crazy times.

They bought the lead off cow at star lakes sale. They have also picked up a few others along the way.

C Miles McKee, looks like a really good calf. It's ironic, my first major win at a state fair was Judged by Miles McKee and it also was a Hereford. That was fourty-six years ago. This was before they had a crossbreed class. I always did well under judge McKee and Herman Purdy.

Maybe they can name one of his offspring, Herman Purdy.

I read in the Sullivan bull sale flyer they mentioned they were developing several breeds now. Both angus. Char. Herf.

Guess they ain't messing around.

It's true....I go to school at KSU and one of my teachers is Dr. Scott Schaake.  we got to watch the sale in class.  I have never seen something go for so much in my life, but now I can say I have witnessed it for myself.

You witnessed something. I am sure everyone one of us has seen "high dollar" animals sell that never get transfered, check is never wrote, or cattle is trades between the two parties.
I am not saying that is what happened, (because we all give Sullivans plenty of money at every show!)  but just because you "saw it", doesn't mean it happened.

If it was legit, congratulations to all involved!

It says he was syndicated and all the members of the syndicate will be announced. I say its legit otherwise they wouldnt bring up those other names.

I personally can't verify that the 600k was real. But, I do know that 250k was real money. My friend was part of a three-way syndicate for that 250k. He said they rolled by him like he wasn't even there. The main player in the syndicate has always been a mainstay in the breed. With Buck, Bushy Park, and Sullivan getting into the Herefords, the showring has changed!

Hopefully he'll favor the herefords and the shorthorn genetics he plays with will die out.  I watched the Star Lake dispersal on RFD- talk about  long flat sided cattle.  It's shame there's the Jim Lent herefords there in Oklahoma that are worlds better in terms of functionality and I guarantee you he's never even sold a bull for what Star Lakes average was.  It's almost disheartening.

If you look at the bull as well as other bulls in certain breeds I feel they are going backwards. Some of these breeders are breeding for a show steer look and starting a fad, in my opinion. Look what Star Lake did, bred for show and if they could muster up some commercial guys along the way they did it. In the end 90% of there stock was junk at the end of the day and didn't amount to squat. Now with saying that Colyers have had a tremendous program and the bull is cool but by looking at him I really think they have limited the spectrum that they can market into as far as true Purebred Hereford breeders raising balanced cattle.
With that Sullivan's are in the fast lane in several breeds as well as other people and are after the $ more so then to build a herd of reputable cattle that can benefit the cattle industry, IMO they'll milk the cow till it's dry and cull it and could care less about the integrity of any breed they are in or have ever been involved in. And I guess that's okay as long as they breed them pure because fads come and go and so will these guys.

Rumor has it that John Sullivan is putting together an all breeds sale. He has been buying up heifers of various breeds off of various sales. He must have something up his sleeve because that bull is good but i dont really think he is 600,000 dollars worth of good.
