In the Austin American-Stateman on Saturday, August 9, 2008 was an article that caught my attention.  38,000 cattle heads were being recalled because their tonsils had not been removed.  The article stated, "Tonsils are considered a specified risk material and are required to be removed from all cattle, according to department regulations.  The materials are tissues known to be able to contain prions, which may be the cause of mad cow disease, or bovine spongiform encephalopathey, as well as materials closely associated with these potentially infective tissues."

I learned something in this article.  I am going to hire the "dragon Lady" to come remove the tonsils from my cows..... folks I am joking.....

The way the article is worded could cause some people to think that the tonsils are the source of MCD.  When actually it is saying that the tonsils act as a filter to catch the bad germs and IF a cow had picked up the bad guys, they could be stored in the tonsils.

All cattle keep their tonsils until they are slaughtered.  You are fine...

In the case of cattle over 30 months, all Specified Risk Material (SRM) will be removed including, head, eyes,
brain, trigeminal ganglia, skull, spinal cord, tonsils, small intestines, dorsal root ganglia, and the vertebral column
(remove the “T” portion of the t-bone, porterhouse for example, but not the rest of the cut, or fabricate boneless
cuts) .

For cattle of all ages, small intestines, tonsils and spinal cord must be removed; not to be used for human
consumption.

Good Lord!  What next?  Who are the people who get paid the money to think of, and publish this garbage??
A few months ago I saw a commercial that was advertising "growth horomone free milk".  It came from dairy cows that were not fed growth horomones.  Who in the h-e-l-l would ever dream of feeding a dairy cow growth horomones??
Find me one man who has fed one dairy cow GROWTH horomones.
WOW...

Unfortunately, Bawndoh, feeding BGH, growth hormones, became quite common as it increases milk production.  Since dairy farmers get paid on milk quantity (and quality), it is a very attractive additive.  I notice lately that even some of the large grocery chains offer milk that is labeled growth hormone free.  The public outcry has helped.  I buy either organic milk or at least milk that is labeled "free".

We should not be shaming  dairymen for using products  the FDA has clearly proven that are safe and pose no health risk.

not only that, but it reduces global warming, more milk for the same level of methane.

what's important in today's world is the qualtiy with which one throws someone under the bus.  this is not a comment on any posters here, but the media in general which only sells conflict.
