Ok, in the past on here I have seen posts about bad experiences people have had with breeders. I just wanted to share one of the best experiences I have ever had buying cattle.

Last fall I bought a few cows on a bred female sale; due to calve this spring. This spring the one cow that we were really excited about calved-she had this beautiful red Simmental bull. The cow had the calf with no problems, licked it off, everything just as she should have-but she had a dead calf. Even called the vet out to post it and she told us the calf had be dead 12 to 24 hours before it was born. I called the herdsman just to see if they had had any problems with this cow in the past so we could make a decision about what to do with her. Now, at this point they could have told us they had never had a problem and it was just bad luck, but they didn't. They went back through their records and told us she had the same issue last year. And then they told us to bring her back and pick out a new cow. This was not why I had called and certainly not what I was expecting; but they have kept us as customers and we plan to go back there this fall to pick up another cow or two.

The breeder was Wildberry Farms at Hanover, Illinois. If you ever are in need of Angus, Sim-Angus, or Simmental genetics, give Jeff or Bryce a call 815-591-3731.

<hero>that is great!  So nice to know there's still some really good folks still out there, makes you feel so good when you deal with honest people that go that extra mile to assist after the sale.

That is truly great. These guys deserve a lot of credit. If I were you I wouldn't look to much farther than there to buy a cow.

I buy cattle out of sales every year. I always try to buy only those that are AI "guaranteed". This is because I like to know when they are due, and we only AI and ET and I like it that way.

Here are some good and bad examples of my experience.

Bought a guaranteed AI cow out of the Holiday Classic a few years back. She became 14 days overdue to Mossy Oak, so I called the guy. He said that there was no mix up and he didn't even have a bull. Told me to induce her. Cow wasn't really showing much at all so I waited five more days than induced her against my better judgement. She spits out a 62 lb bull that really has trouble breathing and making it. You can guess whether or not this was a 19 day late Mossy Oak. Without naming names, cow came from one of the most known breeders around and I paid 4K for it.

Bought two guaranteed AI heifers. One calved on time and the other calved two and half months later and had a white calf. Called the guy, and I quote" well h---, what are you complaining about. You got one good one. Tell you what, if you come up, I'll give you a straw of semen.

Guaranteed AI heifer, calved 24 days later. Guys says sorry about that. The calf out of my maine bull will be just as good.

Now the good,

Was at a sell and was really interested in a certain bred heifer, John Shroyer looks at me and says I would lean over towards this one. They were both his. I buy the one he recommends for 2000 dollars, and the one I originally like sells for 4300. The one I bought has sold a calf for over 2000 every year I have had her. He has helped me several times on what will work and what won't.

Bought a cow from a guy that was guaranteed AI. Didn't calve. Called and he said I will be up to get her and I will bring your money back along with any expense you spent on her. Came the next day.

If I were you, I would really thank these people. In my experience this doesn't happen often.

We bought a heifer at a dispersal had her for 30 days son goes out at 4:30 feeds kicked her lose
45min later, comes in naps a bit gets ready for school goes out to check comes running in
yelling she died ,I ran out yep she bloated up tighter than a tic.Called vet per insurance and
lucky that we took out life insurance for year.We just had finished the night before clipping her out
for Beef Congress ready to roll and you want to talk about heartbroken.

Made trip to Iowa bought heifer out there put insurance on this one before I left the farm and made
arrangement to meet to pick her upright before Christmas and got her home. Everthing went well
down into the spring early summer. Noticed that this heifer was bagging up looked bred but had
given her lute and AI her well late June with her tied in the barn one Sunday went to check on them
I found her with a bouncing baby calf .

Called breeder told him of the situation was told never with a bull but when you count back she was breed
a good bit before the sale. When he was close by he stopped took a look and he made it MORE THAN RIGHT
as this heifer was sold to be openand a show prospect but it was never to be but A darn good cow.

Haven't been back to their sale YET but I will when the opportune arises when we are looking again because
I was impressed with the cattle and the way we were treated when the chips where down.
