I am looking to breed a club calf bull to my limousin heifer calf, and I have found a few bulls I like, but I don't know which to use!

I am just wondering what these bulls produce, calving ease, and what cow would he best fit. I hope this makes sense!

The bulls are

Friction
Lifeline
I AM legend
Checks in the mail
Paddy O malley
heatwave
Moody blues
and last but not least cherry bomb!

Its a tough choice! The first 4 bulls are the ones I am really intrested, but the others are possibilities.

Thanks guys!

None of these bulls are calving ease. also rember Friction and Heatwave are expensive. I would stick something calving ease in her like Gigalo Joe, Majors Money Man, or Dirty Hairy.

I agree 100%.  You might also think about Who Made Who.

I'm not a huge fan of any of these bulls, but I like Friction and Paddy pretty well.

As the others have said, none of the bulls you listed are considered calving ease for heifers.  Of those, Paddy would be most likely to complement most Limousins, but I wouldn't do it for her first calf.

The one clubby bull that calves reasonably easy and consistently works pretty well on Limi's is Who Made Who, or you might consider a Duff or Ohlde type Angus bull for a nice Lim-Flex for her first calf.

I don't know if this will change anything, but this heifer was born at 72 lbs, thats pretty light I was told. Thanks for all your replies! I will look into the other bulls.

Yeah, 72 is pretty light, but you don't want to give her problems on her first calf, which could mess her up for life or kill her.

To name a few most of these are carriers. others have structure problems and so on. Some are just really inconsistent to say the least.

Friction-THF,PHAF, good cattle when crossed on carriers.
Lifeline-Good females and slick shear calves
I AM legend-THC, PHAF, young bull, no calves on the ground
Checks in the mail-PHAC
Paddy O malley-PHAC, some good, some duds
heatwave-THC, hard calving, some good some duds
Moody blues-THC,PHAC, not many good ones heard of.
and last but not least cherry bomb!-THC, seen a few good ones but for a coming 5 yr old not much heard from him

I've heard simmy-angus. Seen a couple good ones out of maine cows. Maybe those deep sided cows that need brought down in height a touch maybe would be my best guess.

When using some of the bulls above you are rolling the dice on birthweights. Northern Improvement, Occ Legend, Traveler T510, Ali, Gizmo are just a few calving ease bulls and also produce very marketable calves. The first calf is not always that home run or out of ball park. Just get a live calf as you are setting up the heifer for her future as a productive female. Once you give her that opportunity then you could  play with some of the above bulls.

What kind of cows does Checks in the Mail work on? Sorry for the high jack

The checks calves we had came out of straight blood angus cows that were a little larger in frame. The best one was only 50''s but was an absolute tank. Little wired in head. He would be nutty as a squirrel at home but when you got him to a show he was a kitten. Never understood that one.

I agree with OH Breeder.  A heifer with a 72 lb. birth weight may not be able to handle a very big calf her 1st time.  I would be very careful & not take a chance of messing her up.  That's one reason why I like Lowline Angus, you just don't have to worry about checking your 1st calf heifer @ 3 am in the morning or have chains & a winch on standby... at least I haven't had to worry yet.  Your list is a train wreck waiting to happen for a 1st calf heifer with a 72 lb. actual birth weight, IMHO!  Some of those bulls might even end her life if she's pregnant with a big bull calf & has trouble.  Anyway, take OH Breeders advice & use something calving ease this time.  I do want to point out that I've heard that Ali can sire an occasional big one, so I'd use him with caution.  Anyway, OH Breeder is giving you great advice... go for a live calf this time & then you can play later.

Since you have a limi heifer, depending on her breeding I would go w/ an Angus or a Reg. Limi. I used Wulfs NASA 1212N and he was a great calving ease bull. He also has one of the highest milking ability in the breed, in case you get a heifer. JCL Lodestar (HOMO Black, HOMO Polled) is a great calving ease and high growth bull if your heifer does not have some of his blood. I would stay away from "clubby" bulls the first year.

I know a guy who has bred to Check's in the Mail several times. He tries every year to sell the calves as club calves. They just don't have club calf appearance. Can't for the life of me figure out why he continues to do it when he isn't getting the desired results.......................

You all so have Carney Man, Chill Factor, ,Grizz, Grizzly (Guyer) and Black Label (Guyer) he used them on heifers he sold this past weekend. I know Carney Man you can use on heifers and Chill Factor use with caution. Breeding to a limmy i don't think you have to worry with the TH/PH thing yet (if it's a heifer and you keep it maybe then).
