I'm not trying to be overly critical, and I hope this comment can be used constructively by the blogger...
I'm confused. Isn't the purpose of a blog to share thoughts, ideas & such? Maybe I'm missing it...I don't see any content at all. If this is supposed to be more like a photo journal, then I think it's headed in the right direction! As a graphic designer, I have to be honest about critiquing the layout...and I would suggest they keep working on it. It usually takes lots of trial & error & gathering of information & opinions before things start to gel & mature. Allow time for devopment, keep an open mind & focus on the image you want to portray and the message you hope to send. Then keep pushing your content and your design in that direction.
It's a good start! No matter what you're building, you gotta start with the framework before you get to the finishing touches!

See if you can find someone to help you figure out how to increase the picture size, they stay the same size when you click on them. Otherwise looks good.
