I'm thinking of breeding this cow to try for a show steer this year..  It will be her 4th calf.. She's our only "xb".  Not sure that I'm heads over heals on a clubby calf 'again' yet though..  I've seen a ton of bulls at Denver, but don't have any experience with them on cows.  Being a Double Stuff dtr, she is PHAC, but THF...  So I'm open to any suggestions.. even include the PHAC ones for pleasure.

Her Ped.
Double Stuff x WMW x *PB* red Maine cow-- (DJ ceaser x Cunia)  Kinda a clubby maternal powerhouse pedigree, I guess.

first pic was a year or 2 ago, the second was a few weeks ago.

Her first 3 calves are also pictured.
black calf was 1st, by Jimmy the Greek
r/w 2nd, by old herd bull
roan, jan, couple weeks old, by Dr. Feelgood

The double posting is irritating, but I think when you are posting if you see the error message, hit the back button rather than refresh and then select The Big Show again, and it will take you to the forum without the double post.  Also, I believe if you do have a double post you can use the "Remove" option at the top right of the post, near the time and date and "Edit" option.  Hope this is helpful.

FYI DJ Caesar is not a fullblood Maine - he is a purebred sired by Power Plant

I tried deleting it, but said I wasn't authorized to do so.  I did get the errer message, and did try it again.. but it has never done that for me before.

Looks like Jimmy Greek calf turned out. Are you wanting shorthorn marked calves?
Heat Seeker himself the original might work esp with WMW in her pedigree. They seem to click. HS on Who's. You might get a solid red one out of her.

she's borderline straight.. was straight as a calf, but since she's turned cow.. she's gotten alot more flex, and can hit her track with ease..

I don't really care about color.. black seems to win, and no one wants a roan for market.  I'm a roan lover, but I guess its time to wake up and smell the roses.
The JtG calf was a pretty good calf, especially for her 1st.. unassisted, 60 some lb range..  His problem was a lack of grow...  He was too dinky for me, personally.  I'm not sure how he finished as an actual  fat, but the shwo story behind him getting shown as a 800 lb fat, will knock your boots off (since he was a fall born, and shows around here are July/ Aug)  Anyways, the 800 lb steer was Reserve Overall as a fat- and the judged stated on the mic that he was by far the best steer of the day, just didn't have the weight on him...   <rock>

The JtG is also clipped out in the picture, where as the others aren't.. and the R/W calf is at a funky angle.. but he was thicker than the jtG.

I think this last calf is the best one, but in that picture he was only a couple days old...  We held her over to start getting spring calves from now on, since fall born clubby type deals don't sell real well in the midwest.  The cows biggest fault, has to be frame size- she's just under a 5, and she has a tendancy to breed them on small.  I personally, would like to deepen her out body wise- but she's not had a problem putting plenty of guts in her sons, regardless of what the sire had for middle..

Thankss for the suggestions.. I'll be doing some research.

What about Captain morgan?  Anyone seen anything out of him.. think he might add some performance, without losing depth, thickness, or bone?  Might be a neat colored calf too...  Is he a diiluter Char, does anyone know?  I remember him from Denver, and despite being a fall, and overly mature compared to most clubby bulls, we as a judging team picked him very high on our list..  my list even higher.

Captain Morgan or Smilin' bob.. whichever color you would want.  Smoke or some blacks.  Same mom.

First off nice female.  If your just in it on her next breeding for show prospect it would be hard to go wrong with heatwave or one of his offspring.  i know u talk about the jimmy the greek calf was shorter framed but now a days in the show ring that may not be a bad thing.

I am going to catch all sorts of grief over this.

"Eye of the Storm"

Have you seen this bull?  I did not see him at Denver last year.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't he a HWx WMW char?  Not sure if I want WMW in there that close 2x.  I'm a huge believer in linebreeding, but I just don't know about this situation.

yes, I know this.. seen both bulls while on display at denver, my question though is, how much yellow/ smoke will he throw- based on calves currently on the ground?

I looked it up, the cow is a 4.5 frame..  Not sure that any smaller is good enough.. she herself is borderline tadpoleish

Hannibal, Hannibal, or Hannibal.

so you are saying to mate a WMW son to a WMW grandaughter?

I really like this mating.  Alot.  Hannibal is clean, is a GREAT match-up to Double Stuff cows, and you have WMW on both sides but enough apart on the tree that I see it as very low risk, and likely a plus.  If you breed her this way I would love to hear about the calf.
