It's always been my understanding that thorazine works on the brain, ace works on the muscles as well.  Hence some of the sideffects from ace others have mentioned.  I've always considered Ace to have more a sure effect.

I'm now crouching under my desk to avoid the lightning bolt that is sure to hit any moment ;)

Dusty all I can say is that you have an amusing sense of entertainment. What other things do you go do to be amused? LOL.

Dusty- you need to talk to Gidget about those! I think she's restrained herself from giving out black eyes!  ;)

in response to talk of dog shows I noticed three breed winners at westmin were excused by group judge for conflict of interest reasons bet that made cattle show judges confused

Sounds something like our little girl - she gets extremely nervous just when she gets ready to go to the ring, too.  And when she gets nervous, she gets nauseous, and then...  Well, you can guess the rest.  But once she's in there, she's all business, and she'll come out smiling everytime.

We did eventually learn that our oldest, who has ADD, could focus much much better in the ring if he took his meds an hour or so before he showed.  He normally only took them before school, but his doctor saw him show and suggested we try it - it did seem to help,  but he doesn't use it anymore (anytime).

That is exactly how Caitlin is, once she gets in the ring and gets set up for the first time she is fine again but I look like the meanest mother in the world when she starts crying in the makeup ring and says she doesn't want to go in and I am like, too late sister, get in there!

Personally, I think Thorazine should come with the Clover Buds starter pack.  If everybody has a good time there first trip out (calf and kid) it seems to have a long lasting positive affect on their show career.
In the old days when we could get the good Thorazine syrup from the pharmacy with a prescription from the vet, it was the med of choice.  Seemed to work the best if you ramped them up in it over a couple days time.  Now it is almost impossible to get and we do use some Ace.  Our daughter will ask me "if they got a little juice."  If she only knew how many times they got a syringe full of fresh air squirted in their mouth.  She will how ever chew me out if one is a little heavy headed in the ring.  Hate to see what it is going to be like working for her when she is older, like 10 or something.
Eight degrees outside and no imminent threat of a thunder storm ...

I have had so many people tell me about showing 40+ years ago, they would get their steers drinking beer and then basically get them drunk so they wouldn't be nuts in the ring, wonder how many of them were mean drunks??

I have also heard stories about big bulls that won national championships higher than a kite on cocaine so they would move free and easy in the ring.

I can just imagine trying to explain that one to the cops - " I swear officer, the coke is for the bull...yeah, the one back at the barn.....what, you do you mean you don't believe me?"

Thorazine is the only way to go for the ring. You just need to have a good connections to get a hold of some.

My halter of choice is actually halter breaking the calf and not drugging it. Ace and Thorazine are both illegal tranquilizers to use on cattle. Per FDA standards. It’s a federal crime.
If you can’t halter break the calf, don’t be an ass that breaks laws.

I had a heifer that was in a wild, hot HOT heat at nationals. She was bawling, and trying to jump EVERYTHING that stood still. She is more than halter broke, been to at least 10 shows this year. Send her to the ring, dragging a kid, trying to jump everything.... or give her something to take the edge off her heat???? No way with the fees involved you are leaving her in the stall, so why make a kid miserable showing a raging heat heifer???

you would have taught that kid the right thing to do by not entering the heifer.

next time, spay the heifer.

I don’t know... You must have felt like the heifer was good enough to go to nationals and is probably a key breeding piece in your operation so spaying is not the answer. If you knew before hand that she was going to be difficult while in heat then a cidr might have been the way to go. Not going to condemn!
