What are your opinions on best adhesives? I’ve only worked with weaver and wanted to see if anyone has had better experience with other brands. Also, does anyone have any tips for working with adhesives on a colored calf? Paints are illegal around here and I don’t like the white it leaves!

Weavers plus their products don't contain cancer causing agents

Don't use so much if you're doing a colored calf

Vastly prefer Sullivan's adhesives and now paints as well.

Big believer in using Prime Time and then building from there if necessary. If you get your glue warm and work the hair correctly as you go, Tail Glue will leave little to no residue.

Try Prime Time, its a great all around adhesive. I've personally never been a big fan of tail head adhesive, also it is really easy to get carried away with. Prime Time looks a lot more natural.

Weaver makes a clear adhesive that was actually designed for Dairy cattle.  I have used it on some colored cattle that were No Paint deals, and it worked pretty well.

As others have said, the white comes from the quantity of adhesive you are using, not the product you are choosing.  More combing and less spraying.

The biggest difference in Sullivans and Weavers is that Sullivans sets much faster. Many experienced fitters prefer it, because they can get their desired effect faster and with less product. I believe part of that preference comes from familiarity - Sullivans products have been around much longer than Weavers. On the other hand, Weavers dries slower and is more forgiving, so it may be a better choice for those with less experience. I know some of the best and most experienced fitters helped design and/or endorse the Weaver products, and they certainly get great results with them. But for most fitters that have been using Sullivans for years, there’s at least a learning curve for using Weavers, and many would just rather stick with what’s always worked for them.

Which particular product from either (or any other) line works best for me varies with a lot of factors - mostly the weather (temp and humidity) and the kind of hair I have to work with.  I’d have to say if you told me I could only use one adhesive from now on I’d have to go with Sullivans Tail, but I know that’s sure not the right answer for everyone.
