I don't think his calving ease numbers are "heifer safe"...no way I'd use him on a heifer.

Proud Jazz, Waukaru Goldmine 2109 are two good ones. We've had good luck with TM Gus.

TM Gus aint safe either-there are a number of proud jazz sons-Arsulu Osage,Arsulu Massive,Hc Touchdown is way safe-but he doesnt knick with some cattle, Uluru Buster at B-Good Cattle Iowa-OKOTOCS on here has several very good hiefer bulls,Loving In Kansas has several including the KF (Kieth Lauer) bull that is the lowest BW in the Breed,,Sue on here has Capt. Obvious-A VERY GOOD ONE FOR LARGE FRAMES,Ralph Larson has "Dover" on either Cattle Visions or SEK (cant remember) ALM Chiller on cat Visions is proven, JTM on here has a couple -one is AT Open Range (I think) and the one he got from Trevor Gray-theres 10 or more proven CE bulls-on hiefers-dont push your luck with any Shorthorn unless there are AT LEAST 2 generations PROVEN CE there.

I highly doubt it but what about medicine man from lautner. I'm from Canada so I have very slim picking in terms of shorthorns bulls.

Oh come on. Gus is as safe as more than half of those you mention. Certainly more than Chiller.

Haha, ALM chiller and JPJ are pretty much the same. I haven't had Gus calves out of heifers but did try a few times. The maternal calving ease of Gus daughters is pretty bad in my experience so I wouldn't even put him in for consideration given my experience.
Unfortunately, I don't have A&T Renegade semen ready to ship to Canada or else I would suggest him. He is as fool proof of a Shorthorn calving ease bull than I've ever used. I've used JPJ plenty, ALM Chiller plenty, Shadybrook Scotty, CF Star Bucks, and a very low birthweight black angus bull. None of them even come close to the consistency of Renegade. I've had over a dozen first calf heifers all unassisted from Renegade. JPJ and ALM Chiller have been about 50-75% unassisted in my experience. Your cow is big framed so I would think a Jake's proud jazz son being promoted as calving ease should work. JPJ can make them a little stouter boned at birth and sometimes high birthweights but a large framed cow should be fine.

Do you know of any heifer safe shorthorn bulls.
White Jazz, Jakes Proud Jazz, Diamond Prophecy, Muridale Buster, SULL Payday, Lakeside Nitro, MAV Bellringer, A&T Renegade, A&T Captain Obvious....these are just some I found on Cattle Visions (besides WHite Jazz) that had pretty good calving ease EPD's

I would recommend HC Mist's Return 13R- he is the easiest calving Shorthorn bull we have ever used. He is white and full Irish. His calves are moderate framed and very sound. Mist's Return calves have the shortest gestation we have experienced from any sire. I have sold more Mist's Return this year than any previous year. One commercial rancher purchased 80 straws as he has been trying to purchase some blue roan replacement females but have not been able to get them. Yesterday I sold 30 more straws to a commercial man in Manitoba who wants to roan up some heifers and wanted to use a white bull. I have posted a picture of Mist's Return taken after breeding 30 heifers as a two year old,  and also a pic of his dam who is shown on pasture at 14 years of age. She went to town at 19 years of age. We used Mists Return on all our heifers for several years and I only assisted one backwards calf.

Other good choices are Hillside Leader, a solid red bull we own with JoeNTenn. He calves easily and Waukaru has purchased a syndicate interest in him and they have a good bunch of calves on the ground now. Hillside Leader is homozygous polled as well.

Another bull I have always loved to use on heifers is Shadybrook Optimum 75F. He is also homozygous polled and he is handled by Semex. A few months ago, Semex still had some semen left on him. He was never promoted much but he also is easy calving and his calves are not throw aways. Every Optimum calf of both sexes I have had here has been sold as a breeding animal. His dam was HC Misty Juanita 30C and she was at Shadybrook until she was 18 years old.

Uluru Buster 6T is also a very good choice for heifers. The only picture I have of him was at Iowa State Fair as a yearling. He is super thick , easy fleshing and moderate framed.

HC FL Touchdown 123T has been calving pretty good as well, and he will add thickness and moderate frame. We have a great set of Touchdown calves this year, and there are a couple bulls that I think are among the best we have produced for a while. I would say that TD is not quite as easy calving as Mist's Return, but he is as good as any of the others I have mentioned.

I have used Sin City and while I haven't had any calving problems, I also have not used him on heifers. I think the calves I have had from him have been in the 90-100 lb range... but again these were from cows. Sin City calves will get big!  They are fast growing and have more frame than I ever expected from him. One thing he does do good is his daughters seem to all have super udders.

I also will mention an old reliable calving ease sire, Ready Go x. He is also homozygous polled and we purchased him at the 1974 American Polled Congress in Louisville KY for a then record price. It is now 39 years since we purchased him and we still sell semen from him and have every year since we purchased him. This semen is in vials, so that may not be what you want to use. We are down to less than 100 doses of him now. There are some breeders who have used him for over 25 years on their heifers.

There are also other bulls that I think would be good choices to use on heifers, but these are some of the ones I recommend most often.I have semen from most of these bulls stored at Alta Genetics and at Eastgen in Ontario, and I have lots here at the farm and I can send it out in a dry shipper from here if need be.

Just in time: Where did you get highfield Irish mist semen from. Is he a calving ease sire?
Also have you had any experience with cappache I found a guy today that carries Cappiche semen in my area.

We imported Irish Mist from Ireland in 1973. His semen was collected then and I only have 4 vials left from him and I am saving it for a special flush or two. Irish Mist was easy calving as well, and he also had a short gestation length. I have kept track of gestation length for years on any female i have a breeding date on. Irish Mist calves averaged 9 days shorter gestation than our calves sired by IDS Duke of Dublin, who was the second bull we brought from Ireland.

I still consider Irish Mist to be a " once in a lifetime" bull. He naturally serviced 100 or more females each year from the time he was 2 years old. He died at age 14, during surgery for a twisted gut at the Uof S vet college. At age 14 he could still out walk most any person I know, and he never had his feet trimmed ( something for an Irish Shorthorn bull!). You can find Irish Mist in the background of many Canadian Shorthorns. In some cases, he is in the background several times. For example, looking back in the pedigree of Saskvalley Pioneer 126P, Irish Mist appears 8 times, as does Huberdale Mastercharge. Irish Mist is pictured here at age 11.

A&T Captain Obvious 606S is not available for Canada. Matlock Shorthorns have a son of Captain in  Canada and I believe they have semen on him ?? Lakeside Ripper 901 photoed here is from last fall. Ripper is a little longer and taller then his sire. Super disposition. His dam photoed at 10.
