I know I read this a few weeks ago but could not find it.  So I am sorry for not posting in the right place.

I have set some standards that I want in my herd, just as you have for yours.  With these standards I came up with the following bulls that I really like:

For PB Maines:  Ali and Triple X.  I will use Ali this Spring and if I like Triple X's calves next month I will use him in the Fall.

For Maintainers and cross bred cattle:  NBJ Gigolo Joe, DCC Smokin Joe 157P, JJ Oklahoma Storm 01R,

Heifers that have a clubbie look Amtrak and Gigolo Joe.

Ok, not knocking your choice, just curious.  You obviously like Gigolo Joe, why do you not like him for PB Maines?

dang jill, i was just writing that.

which amtrack?  LLND AMTRACK  or K&A AMTRAK A35

is smokin joe the one someone was referring to that he was a hotline son that was looser made than total package or another DCC bull.

there are so many ali's out there, i'm kinda bored with him.  a few people will really know what nicks with him, i don't, maybe you do.

haven't heard storm's name for a while, like to see another pic of him and some calves.

when you say heifers with a clubby look, do you mean you want to heifer them up a little bit?  this is an interesting pendulum right now.

I did not say that I did not like Gigolo Joe for PB Maine's, I want to use him on my crosses (Mainetainers) to get better PB Maines.  I will probably use him on PB Maines the next go around.

What I did was to make a list of qualities that I want in my cattle.  Then I listed lots of bulls that I have seen advertised, others that I had seen cattle out of and from that list took the EPD's and made a study.  Then I took the knowledge of there sons and daughters that I have seen and made my decision.  Gigolo Joe was the top bull on my short list.  He has all the qualities that I like and he scored highest in my test of bulls.  A bull that I have seen and really liked is Oklahoma Storm but Joe outscored him.  By using Triple X on my PB's I will be able to register the calves as PB's and hopefully use Gigolo Joe on them for the next generation.  Triple X has some Chi-Angus in him and I think that helps his decedents to hold their heads up more that the PB Maine's do, especially in the show ring.  I like a little Chi-Angus in them for that reason and also for the the udder shapes.  I have some 14 year old Chi-Angus that you would think they are second year heifers by looking at their udders.  Triple X comes from Hard Core who makes them shorter, and many Chi-Angus have too much altitude to show and ranchers say the jump fences too well.

The Amtrak bull would be the old K & A.  His bloodlines have produced some really great maternal cattle and that was my reason for using him.  I know he is not the style today but he has the genetics that I personal want in some Momma cows.

Smokin Joe was actually the second place bull on my short list.  He is a double bred Energizer.  Ali is his sire and the dam is a Energizer daughter.

My first registered Maine bull made all the heifers I have very thick and the ones that look more like steers are out of registered shorthorns.  I want to stretch them out a little while keeping some thickness in them.  My reasoning is based on the fact that many of the clubbie type bulls do not produce calves that grow as quickly as some of the older type Maine bulls.  I sell the farmers and ranchers who want the calf to hit the ground small but grow and hit the market at a heavier weight that some club calf bulls.

Like I said this is my reasoning only and I do not expect others to do it the way I have chosen.

Thanks, I also like the bull and was just curious how you came to your conclusions.
