Red, I made it out to Hawkeye Breeders on Friday.  They were collecting mostly club calf bulls.  They had the following Maines: Ali, Hard Core, Reality Red and Bourbon Street.  Shorthorns: Polar Express and Wind Ridge Leggs.  Club Calf: Heat Wave, Sugar Daddy, Friction, Monopoly, Blue Blood, Hillbilly Deluxe, My Turn, Ace in the Hole, Sun Seeker, Hired Hand. Angus: WAR Cowboy Up and WAR Architect.  These are the ones I can remember. If you are interested, I do have some pictures of the bulls.  Ali looked great, was very impressed with him. Hard Core looked like he had lost the outside part of his back right hoof. I couldn't figure out why he was standing funny until he moved around in his pen and I got to looking at his hoof and part of it was gone. He looked  a little rough, but still nice.  Was impressed with Blue Blood, very thick, deep bodied. Looks like he will sire some nice females. The only thing that would concern me was he was pretty big shouldered.

Great Iowa! Really appreciate the information. Would love to see some pictures if you have them! If you need any help, send them to me at [email protected]
I would really like to be able to see the bulls anymore in person or hear information from someone. I'm starting to have big problems w/ some of these pictures in catalogs & magizines. It really helps when you can see a bull in his real work clothes. I've seen Gene Rowe's bulls in the pasture & that's one of the reason I've used so many of them.
How did Heat Wave look? I'm using a lot of Hard Core this year & am glad to know his lameness isn't a structural problem.
On a totaly different note, I saw that Launter is promoting a bull called Free spirit. He is clean Paddy O'Malley son. Was the high selling bull at Ohio's Expo but was named Free Whiskey N Ice. Breed by some super nice people, the Reindel Brothers.

Thanks so much!!!

Hey if you could send me pictures of the whatever clubbies you have from there I would appreciate it. I am especially interested in Heat Wave, Friction, Sugar Daddy, and Sun Seeker. Can a person just go to Hawkeye on any day and take a look around the place?

drl,  Hawkeye is open M-F 8 to 5 and visitors are welcome anytime.  They have the bulls in 2 barns and you can walk through and look on your own.    It is nice to see them in their "plain" clothes without all the hair and fluff.  I was impressed with Sunseeker and Friction, both have a tremendous amount of length, bone and thickness. Too bad Sunseeker is a TH carrier. Heatwave was having problems on his back wheels. He didn't look like he could move around at all. He kept lifting the back feet up and down, reminded me of a calf I had with spastic paresis.  Elbee, I will email the pictures to Red tonight and have her post some. They are not great pictures, but may give you an idea of what they look like with out all the fluff.  Poor lighting and combination of glare from the sunlight coming into the darker pens made for some so so pictures.

Chambero, they probably don't want any pictures taken, but there were no signs saying that you couldn't and no one was around so I took advantage of it and snapped a few.

OK, I've gotten some of them done. Iowa was very busy w/ the photo taking!
Not the best pictures but under the circumstances pretty good.

Thanks Red for posting them.  My thought is the bulls are there for visitors to see in the flesh. You get to see what they truly look like with out the fluff and in their working clothes. The proof is in their progeny, not how they looked when I took a picture.

Yes, they've redone their website. Have a new search engine for bulls. Like the ordering part & no minimums!

I bet somebody gets a request to take those photos down in a hurry.  I thought our herd bulls looked rough at the end of winter!
