My wife and I are looking for quality AI schools to possibly attend.  Any suggestions?  We live in west central Indiana and are willing to travel...

Select Sires puts them on as far as I know. We went to them 9 years ago and had a great time and learned alot. The school was 500.00 and at the end they gave us a semen voucher for 500.00 so it was nice. I got a ton of Predestined and Integrity. One good pick and one not so good pick lol.

Its hard to do but if you can take a school a couple weeks ahead of breeding....you can jump right into some cows while every thing is fresh in you mind. If you take the class one year before you breed cows for the first time I think it is harder to get the hang of it.

aj is right on there. I went straight from school to back home and was breeding a cow that evening. It's tough at first but keep tryin, the light bulb will come on eventually. I took a job with Genex soon after just to get better and stay in practice. Ended up breeding lots of dairy cows. My personal favorite is the pen full of Jersey heifers waitin on ya!

Thanks all for the great feedback...  Trevor where does Select Sires usually conduct there classes?  I agree that it would be nice to take the classes right before breeding season.  We are getting very tired of hauling cows around to get bred or hoping and wishing you can get a good A.I. person to show up on a drop of a hat.

I know ABS holds a 3 day class in Little York Indiana near Scottsburg around Spring Break time.  Its over for this year but would help you get ready for next years breeding season.  Its been about 10 years since I took the class but I think it was like 250-300 back then, plus you are allowed to come back at any of the future classes for a refresher or just to practice on some of the cows.

The best thing to do would be call them. When I took the class they held it at a local sale barn and we practiced on cull cows. I'm sure they still offer something like that. I think it was a two day deal and you can come back to any other schools as well to freshen up. Remeber manipulate the cervix over the gun, don't move the gun thro the cervix. I heard that 100 times lol. Good luck to you!

Genex or CRI does them, I took one at a Iowa State University farm spent about half day in class and 3 days practicing on cull cows and also heifers. If you can learn to get a 1st calf heifer done most cows are a breeze. It was nice at ISU they have a barn with 10 chutes in it all lined up so you could just move down the line of cows and practice.
