What a great man Dick was. knew show cattle better than anyone. In the 70s won the Iowa state fair and ak Sar ben more than any family ever did or will do.thanks for being a friend big guy !! <rock> <beer>
Sorry to hear about this. My prayers for the family. The most memorable steer I ever saw was shown by his family. It was a red baldy, simmy and limi cross. It won the Iowa state fair. Not sure what year, but he sure was a good one. Fond memory.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He was a great freind to my uncle Duane Hilbert. Dick used to help with alot of the Hilbert Show Steer Sales in the 70's and 80's. He was a great man and cattleman. Rest in peace Dick. You and Duane can continue youre dominance in the big Show/Sale Ring in the sky.
I was fortunate to have Dick as a mentor and friend.I sold Dick and his family their first State Fair and Ak-Sar-Ben champions and he payed me back 100 times over by helping my family and I learn how to show cattle. His secret to success was he and his family out worked the competition and had desire to win.Dick had a handicap from polio at a young age and would be an example for anyone how to overcome a hardship and be better at most anything he attempted. He was one of the best farmers in our area and his place was groomed to perfection.I will always be thankfull for his being a friend and the gift of knowledge he shared with me.
