This was a surprise. These people live 20 miles from me. Jerry used to drive around with a mule in the bed of his pickup.......... the kind with hooves not wheels. ;D

It's comical that they think they can actually control the population through hunting and trapping.  When you think about the number of litters a sow can have a year and how young they can start, you understand how quickly you begin to lose the battle.

I'm curious how many states don't have a hog problem yet?

Rednecks? Not controlling? Yall must not know robert and his family i dont know his dad but his sister dates one of my best friends and robert and I have become close since he use to work with my brother and now spends quite a bit of time with us chilling at the house and such. Country folk? yes! Redneck reality? No! Maybe for the tv show but not in real life. They do more for hog population than most robert is ate up with hunting almost as much as I am. I agree you can't and won't kill every pig but if every person killed every single pig they saw there would be a lot less. A sow can have 2.5 liters a year with up to around 12 piglets surviving in good conditions. Its a huge problem and needs to be taken care of seriously. There are two types of land in texas; one with hogs and one that will have hogs. This subject is like beating a dead horse but I'm ready to see the "hollywood" version of my buddy come next week!

The best method we've found to use is a 4-seater helicopter with two shooters using a 12 gauge shot gun and an AK 47 annually. Quite effective. It certainly has helped with the hog population on our south Texas ranch. And the best part is hunters are more than happy to pay for their seat on the helicopter so no out of pocket expense for us!

It's not about knowing anyone, I'm sure the individuals filmed are as nice of people as anyone else.  My comment is directed at the reproductive potency of feral hogs.  You made my point, if just one fertile sow and boar survive on your ranch, your neighbors ranch or if they come from 5 miles away to set up shop after you annihilated everything in a 5 square mile area.  Run the numbers and remember that they reach puberty at 6-8 months with ~115 day gestation. So if the 1 sow is bred on arrival, within one year not only has she had 2 litters with a third on the way, each fertile female in her first litter can have piglets on the ground as well.  There is a reason we have as many pigs now as we do.  I saw my first one here in ~ 1997.  Now it is abnormal not to see one while deer hunting.

This was on the news at noon today.

what's the difference in these hogs and say dirt hogs of the 50s and 60s?  other than those had an owner... I'm guessing that at some point, these had owners as well, maybe not though...  The colors of some of them sure reminded me of a spot...

why are people not rounding these up and putting them in a lot to haul off to slaughter?  Somebody load me a trailor load, and bring them here- I'll try it.

You're right DCC Show Cattle - Feral Hogs are not the easiest opponent! They cause multi-million dollar damages to crops and livestock every year. They also pose as a threat to nearby residents. This should be a great show!

American Hoggers premiers tonight (Wednesday, October 19th, 10/9 Central on A&E)

For more information on the show, check out http://bit.ly/AmericanHoggers

I am working with A&E to spread the word about American Hoggers, so if anyone has questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!

I watched both episodes last night. Different kind of show, but pretty neat. I was impressed that they were taking the ones they captured alive to the food bank. Just curious , do they charge by the hog, by the day or what? We have a couple of guys around here that catch cows for people & they charge by the cow. No catch, no pay. I had a farm that we had a coyote problem on. I had a couple of buddies that I would let turkey hunt , with the stipulation that for every turkey they killed they had to kill a coyote.
