<beer> well I for one love it when grades like that prove that Shorthorns are second to none in many ways.  I think that the more data the Shorthorn Association gathers (both American and Canadian) the more we benefit our breed, and our potential customers.

I have long believed the only reason angus are believed to be superior cuts of meat are the marketing dollars that gointo the perception.  A side by side of limi cs angus  steers showed limis being choice 1-2 vs angus not making choice and being 3-4 on average for the pen.  So why is black hide supposed to be so great on terminal pens?

My question is.....If shorthorns are such good carcass cattle, why don't I see feedlots full of the breed?

I don't have pictures of the 32 head of cattle harvested...but 28 of the 32 were either sired by AF KF VG Step Ahead (pictured) or Highland Synergy (Step Ahead son - full sister picture is attached)

My impression is the best angus has is maternal, not terminal, but that the ad campaign convinces the consumer that angus is the ideal terminal breed rather then facts.  To sell a product create a demand.....  I have seem more then one feedlot trial show similar results, breed x out performs an angus average.

Because CAB is the biggest and most successful marketing campaign in the history of the commercial food industry

That looks like a very nice beef bull.  Keep up the good work!

Let us be fair. Part of what made it so successful is other breeds did NOTHING!! Set back and laughed. I wasn't around when it all started but I am sure that was the way it was. I am sure most breeders thought there is no way people would buy into what they were selling, mostly because they had faith in their own breed to be as good or better. Now we are all playing catch up,some of us thought tuning their breed black would shorten the distance. IMO This may have worked in the short term but will not work very well in the long run. Others found their own path, adding genetics to improve the breed, improving EPD reporting and make their breed more marketable to today's cattel man  but keeping their breeds original colors, identity and traits. I give these breeds credit and believe it will work out for them in the long run better than turning them black for a few extra cents at the sale barn.

This one will take some beating!  Apparently it was a genuine billboard in Rocklea, Queensland, Australia.  Taken in 2010.  Maybe Thunderdownunder can confirm.
