Hey everyone! Any info/insight on any of these bulls? I have a friend wondering and I'm a bit curious myself! How are daughters looking/performing? Muscling? Fleshing ability? Depth? Rear leg structure? Thanks in advance!

I have one that came under my radar that I would like to know more about, Shell Shocked.

I usually only buy semen from Genex or Select Sires. I don't have much luck with the semen I get from Cattle Visions and realize they are just a resale. My conception on Genex and Select Sires semen runs about 85%, versus maybe 50% with others (bought One Eyed Jack, American Pride, Analyse This, Combustible, .... several others).

FSW, I have seen that bull in person when he sold. He is good! His sister was a rock star as well. I bought a heifer from SSC as well that day.

I've been trying to work Hot Beef into the breeding program here for a couple of years... but the boss is on a blaze/white-face Simmental kick, so buying a solid-color bull to sit in the tank is not really an option.
I'm a fan of BeefMaker and Shear Force... and Hot Beef sure brings marbling/ribeye/tenderness to the equation.

I've had no problems with conception rate on semen from CV; usually run 85% regarless of source... but, I can't say the same for some I got from Accelerated... 'course, it could have been the bull... 'cause two different purchases of two different canes of semen from him both gave less than 50% conception rate on virgin heifers.

I haven't had bad conception from Cattle Visions yet, running around 70-80% all together...KNOCK ON WOOD my last group of 15 CIDR protocol cattle is running 100% conception, so I can't complain!  <party>

LP, have you heard any calf reports on Hot Beef? I like the EPD profile but I'm curious about how they look!

Have not seen or heard anything about Hot Beef calves - but... I'm a commercial producer... with no connection or inclination toward the showring... so I'm not concerned about big hair, freaky neck extension, or anything like that.  I've got no idea if there's a single animal in my herd that would garner a second look from anyone who's into showing... I'm just looking to breed functional cattle that produce a good growthy calf with good carcass characteristics.
We've been using several sons/grandsons of Hook's Shear Force 38K, and have really liked what we've gotten from them.
Also considering Long's Damien and Kappes L Man U291, as potential sires for use in the next year or so.

I'm right there with you at this point! The older I get, the more I realize how important functional cattle are. I'm mainly looking for one who can give me a decent EPD profile while maintaining depth and muscle. I guess you could say I'm looking for performance with a powerful phenotype.  (lol)  I'm a bit worried about Hot Beef calves being too tight gutted for my liking.

I like my Shear Force influence cattle for maternal characteristics. They're some of my best mamas. (thumbsup)

For the Angus bulls:
Baldridge Jennings : I used a paternal brother, Baldridge Download, from Genex.  Calves came easy, are hairy, grew well, and are structurally correct. I'd maybe like to see a little more flex in the pasterns on all of them.  Bulls need more testicles and docility is so so.  Lots of eye appeal though. Son pictured below at 11 mo of age.  Daughter at 7 months.
Bush's Easy Decision: Peak Dot Ranch up in Canada has lots of progeny.  Check out their catalogs.  Look like deep bodied buggers.
Bruns Blaster: We used him AI last spring so we'll have calves in a few weeks.  I'll let you know how they look.  I have seen lots of calves off of one of his flushmates, Bruns Archer.  Calves are thick, hairy, deep, lots of testicles and grow very well.  Maybe a bit of leather up front (for an angus).  No feet issues that I have noted yet.

Thank you for your reply! I really appreciate your insight! I'll definitely be looking at Easy Decision more closely!  <beer>
