Angus Herd Sire Progression

We will probably collect him for in-herd use this fall.  No interest from any distributors.  Most won't touch a bull that doesn't have a big name farm attached to him, regardless of quality. 

I dont know about nobody using him-Im no Angus expert-but we are inundated with them here-and often I go by Whitestone and thier doner pen (which is right on the road) and they aint got NUTHIN made like him-out working he has more depth and muscle, and is just bigger footed, thicker, and more powerfull,and JMO-alot more correct-tailhead or not.That picture of the hiefer and her calf at the show accentuates how different (in a good way) the cattle up your way are than the ones  down here. O0

Thanks Mark.  I've spoke with our Genex Rep at length about this.  They won't touch a no-name bull because it just won't sell.  There's so many good bulls from big name farms that even a great bull from a no-name guy can't compete.  Right or wrong that's life.  If he keeps producing sons like these he'll keep me in business though.

Saves you having to buy semen.  If you don't believe in your own stuff, why bother.  Nice bull.

Genex would be my last choice:and they have about as much imagination as flat hubcap-albeit lots of clients.-Hes the type you want on cattle visions and SEK-But you probably wouldnt want to go to the expence O0

Mark - I'd be open to leasing him to whoever for stud but I'm in no position to be able to properly market him myself. That takes $$$ that I don't have  :-\

Good bull, better Angus bull than most being used AI.  Not narrow or flat muscled enough to be popular.

IMO, super impressive. I like bulls that are designed like him. Some of the current show bulls look too straight, especially off those front shoulders.

Another progeny pic.  Feb Heifer calf.  Super soggy and wide topped.  Unbelievably docile, especially consider her mother is not.

Also, a bred heifer that will be selling this fall off of Elvis.  Bred to SAV Angus Valley.  Crappy pic but she's a full sib to the calf.  Maybe a bit less soggy, but a bit smoother fronted.

Have any pitcures on how he does on Limo ans Simmy cows?  I was thinking he could help the front ends of some fleck influence cows and produce some outcross simangus.  I also think he could put some guts in some Limo bloodlines.

Mark - We did use him on a few limo cows and it worked quite well. Had a high selling Lim-flex bull out of him and I have a 2 year old lim flex daughter that just raised my best heifer calf.  I don't have any decent pics of the cow but she's a really nice cow.

I would like to see if he can improve the front ends on Fleckvieh cows.  I think he would work well on either limo or fleck cows to produce angus influenced genetics.  What do the local limo and simmy breeder think of him?  would they think he is worth using?

We have sold quite a few of his sons to simmy based commercial operations.  Great reviews so far.  Commercial operations around here generally do not use AI so selling sons continues to be my best route.  Interesting to note that I sold one of his sons to a purebred Hereford breeder this year.  He's excited for the powered-up baldie calves he should get next spring.  I retained a half interest in that bull so I will have a few limos bred to him as well.  Pic attached is the son.

Also forgot to mention I have a very interested simmental breeder in the yearling that I posted earlier this week.  I think he'd be ideal for them, maybe even better than his sire with his HF Kodiak mother providing some more calving ease/short gestation.

Updated pic of an Elvis Son, NYK Graceland.  I used him last year and will again this spring.  I have sold the walking rights on him to a Maine Anjou and Commercial outfit.  His first calf crop is coming now and they may be better than Elvis's.

Also a pic of one of the Elvis Daughters that I sold.  New owner is absolutely in love with her.  Perfect udder, wide as can be, and docile and easy to handle.

A good, masculine, wedge-shaped bull producing productive daughters, for fear of sounding like a stuck record, I have mentioned this before!

Good point!  If you want predictability in this business that's about as good as it gets.  Find yourself a masculine, powerful, wedge shaped bull in this mold and his daughters will keep you in business a lot longer than any smooth fronted "show" bull.
