Neighbor wants my help and I'm not up to date with my angus bulls.  I need a little help.  He is interested in a bull at the Iowa Beef Expo out of Bando...I've heard of him but know nothing about him.  Can you all give me some facts on Bando good and bad.  He's a commercial guy looking for an angus bull that isn't a beast to calve out, and has decent numbers.

Any help would help me alot Thanks!

If you could find out which Bando, that would probably help.  Clearly not an Angus guy, but I know there are a lot of Bando bulls runnin around.

I know several people who are using him on heifers and having no problem.  Most are saying calves are coming 65 to 72 lbs.

The Bando 5175 of 0699 is probably not going to be the easiest to calve out. We used him  when his birth wt epd was in the mid 2's and when it came time to calve those cows bred to him his bw epd was over 4. We didnt have any problems with them but something to think about. the daughters are a littl hard keeping for me as well.

Either HSAF Bando 1961 or SAV 5175 Bando 0699

I really like 1961.  We have used him and have had great results.  There was a post about 1961's running out of gas...i didn't see that.  They usually framed out at around 6 to 6.5 for us.  One side effect is that they can be kind of stupid at times!

The 1961's that I have seen in production are beautiful cows with great udders.

One thing you need to watch out for is that they can be a tick straight fronted.

As far as the latter bando... I haven't had any experience.

Know the owners of 1961.  They have had a lot of great calves out of him. I have used him on heifers and had 70lbs. calves. Have two sons one Angus and one simm/angus and calves so far are 65 to 80lbs. We run a commercal herd and show cattle. The ones feed out did great and daughters are wonderful.
