What goes into naming an animal?  Some of the names I would think would be how the animal is expected to perform but others seem to be unrelated to performance.  Is there reasons, or just trying to find a cool name that is unusual and stands out?  There seems to be alot of unusual names of animals out there right now what are some that really stand out to you all.  Example Indian Outlaw, Hard Core, Who's Who, Prophecy, Sun Seeker ..............................................   8)

Well I might be wrong but I am pretty sure Sun Seeker name comes from his Dam being a Heat Seeker so they just went off of that. Some names are chosen for the bloodlines but some are just choose to be the coolest or to stand out the most.

My uncle used to name his bulls after something or someone that was popular or talked about the time when they were born.  This has been years ago but a couple that come to mind was Swartzkopf and Desert Storm.  I named my herd bull T-Majic (hence my name on her) . The reasoning behind the name is cause he is out of Carnac  and also because I am a big Husker fan and last year T-majic became a popular nickname for out quarterback.  IDK  I think people like somthing catchy that will stick whether there is any reasoning or not.

We use the bloodlines and continue the names out of the cow family name. Such as Cumberland, Lisa , Banner Duchess, Augusta Pride, Mona Lisa and Fantasy Girl lines are the main ones. Then we use a series of numbers and letters determine its place in a particular bloodline. Like to give people an idea of what the bloodline is all about and what its progeny is capable of. I find it funny when people go out and buy a really well bred female from a good breeder and totally drop the naming convention and name the first heifer out of it something like "Snookie" or "Bubbles". Pretty funny considering its out of a Sullivan's Augusta Pride show heifer makes me think either these people don't know about cow families or they are just not in it for the long run.

When it come to bulls also like to use the bloodline names and find a way to play off of that. But sometimes if a good name comes to mind, there is a higher chance i will use it on males than females. Def try to market the Cumberland bulls as such people know what there getting from that.

But overall its just easier to keep track of numbers and letters that all the names of the spice girls. But thats just me.

I have a March ET clubby bull prospect that is out of a mixed sired flush.I have not sent in DNA yet so I don't know his sire, but I have named him " PURPLE PURSUIT". His name has nothing to do with sire or dam, but it is what he is about.
