Chuck Leemon passed away two days ago. He was like a grandfather to me, and an exceptional man. He was also a long-time Shorthorn breeder here in Hoopeston, IL.  Many of you know him and the Leemon family, but I didn't know how many had heard this sad news.  May your prayers also be with the Leemon family.

I am sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. We had many wonderful visits over the many years I knew him. He was one of the few total lifetime Shorthorn breeders left that I knew of. He was very proud of his family, his cattle and his farm, and he had every right to be. The Leemon family are great people and their cattle are as honest and right as they are. I will have to send my condolences to his family.

I had several great conversations with Chuck over the years, as I have known him since my birth.  He will be missed at the coming Illinois State Fair and within the Shorthorn Cattle Industry as a whole.  My thoughts and prayers are with the Leemon Family.

Chuck would consign good cattle ( and, I mean some DARN good ones) to the ARkansas Shorthorn Sale every year. He never floored 'em, either. Regardless of what the final bid was. To go from Hoopeston, IL to Marshall, AR( the site of the AR State Sale for 20-plus years) was a long ride. To sell good cattle for 1/3 of the price they'd bring anywhere else, Chuck and Scott (both) told Me, was how You get good cattle in the hands of good people.

That being said, I will also say Chuck wouldn't ever pump one full o'air, neither.

Jill, Ma'am, I can't help, but to pay respects to one of the coolest people I ever knew. I looked up to him, despite his short stature. Chuck Leemon was a big man.

Yes, Chuck was a big, big man.

He was great fun to be around.  We used to tie beside him in Indy.  Both he and I grew up being "barn rats."
