I will be packing my own plastic cups on my next hotel stay.  I already stay away from the comforter.

Hotels are nasty... who knows who was staying there the night before you arrvied? I only stayed at one that I would consider clean for a wedding near Kansas City and it was probably only clean because it opened only 2 weeks before we stayed there. I thought the Grand Country in at Branson was nice too.  ;D

I always sleep in the barn at my district fair, never brought them to tie outs either. This way I can watch them and keep the strange night vistors away... and I know now that sleeping in a livestock barn is cleaner than a hotel anyway.

I travel for a living. I am in hotels for 3-4 nights sometimes a week. I never use the hotel glasses for this reason as well as the comforter that is atop the bed. That is the first thing that gets thrown on the floor. I also bring disinfectant spray and the entire room gets sprayed- door knobs, remote control, phone and all fixtures as well as tub. It is crazy they charge you 150 a night and think you could bring home an unknown friend. Recently I stayed at a 5 star property in Virginia for a work function. Mind you this is over 300 plus a night, and one of my coworkers had to go to the doctor when she got home because she had acquired bed begs. EEK!.

I travel alot too....to shows and with work.  I have an obsession with roaches and scorpions.  If I have traveled to an elevation below 5000 feet, I dump my laundry out on my front porch and wash immediately to not welcome any of those into my house!!!

Bed bugs have made a comeback.  The early ranch pioneers used to keep each leg of their bed inside a can of kerosine to try to keep those nasty things away.

Unfortunately, what they showed here was only a tip of the iceberg. Restauraunts are another matter entirely. On a recent trip, I watched a waitress dump a few part cups of coffee , back into the coffee pot. They were left by customers who had finished their meals and left. After dumping the part cups back into her coffee pot, she continued from table to table asking each, if they wanted more coffee. I had been thinking about getting a refill until I saw this. This was not a diner but a fairly high class extablishment, with a top end menu, with a very high rating from public health officals.

But then, the old timers used to say we all would be healthier, if we at a peck of dirt and a pound of horse hair each year. I am not sure if this logic extends to recycled coffee  as well. It did make  me wonder what other food products were being "recycled" in this restaurant. My dad always says that a person should never look into the kitchen at your favourite retaurant. It may disallusion you as to how good the food is, that is served.

I travel a lot also, but stay in moderate hotels, super 8's, comfort Inn's etc. AND I HAVE NEVER had bed bugs.
Only once was I in a room that I thought hadn't been cleaned real well (found a long hair on the bathroom counter), and I asked to switch and they gladly did so. Even gave me a half discount! Maybe it is the higher end hotels that have a problem with employees  (Maybe our standards are higher than their native countries) that have a problem...not so much the smaller hotels? Don't know, just a thought!

This was great after spending 6 nights in Vegas & 4 nights in Loiusville in the past 2 weeks. OHB I would venture that you do travel prepared as much as you travel. By the way OHB , Gwendoline had a heifer last week. Pretty nice.

any way when we lifted up the black comferter there were stains on it and the white sheet had brown stains

How about getting a room that someone snuck a pet into previously and waking up in the middle on the night with fleas biting you.
