I have this Purebred Simmental cow that I will be breeding this April and I didn't know wether to go the Showy or Maternal way. She was bred to make bulls and I think that I could get some pretty good Herd Sire prospects out of her, however, I want to get a decent calf to show if it is possible, and don't know which road to take. She has plenty of muscle, but could use some pretty pretty if her calves would be shown. Her brisket is pretty undesireable, but hey, she's an eassy keeper ;D!  She was shown and recieved Grand Champion at the State level and Supreme Champion at our local Fair. I am trying to keep EPD's in mind and do not want to breed her to something that has no milk, CE or growth. The bulls that I were considering are GW Lucky Man and Hook's Shear Force for a Maternal/Bull prospect and for a showy calf I was considering either Cut Above or F Nichol's Muhammad. I am open to any purebred options and suggestions! Just wondering if you have any options that might click well.

Sorry about the poor picture quality. If you want other pictures of her offpring or her, let me know! I have two bull calves out of her, but don't have pictures yet. She isn't an exceptional looking cow, but I feel that she could have massive bulls and functional daughters that could be shown decently if she was bred to the right bull. Thanks for your help!

I might be tempted to try Dream Catcher on her. Werning's other bull Yardley High Regard seems to be gaining some popularity as well. Either of them could pretty her up some and get a show prospect.

PRS Blazin Hot W192 should give you a pretty nice simmental calf from her with good EPD's. You might also look at SVF Star Player T801.

Here's an Upgrade sired 3/4 Sim 1/4 Angus bull that might work and he has a no holes EPD profile. I sampled him on my herd this year. You'd get purebred progeny breeding him to a purebred cow. Genex carries him.

WOW! I like him. How much was his semen? When are your first calves due to him? What did you cross him with (what kind of cows)? Thanks for the heads up, can't wait to find out more!

Dare to be different , R&R Chamberlain , Upgrade son. Just an idea !

HUGE difference in EPD's of Chamberlain and the Genex bull Top Grade. Don't like the negative milk number on Chamberlain, but his yearling EPD looks good. I like the looks of Top Grade better.... just saying  ;D

I bought the semen through OriGen before he was carried by Genex and I got it at $20/straw. I used him on different types of cows, 3/4 AN 1/4 SM, halfbloods and some Simbrah cows too. I flushed the cow in my avatar to him. My calves are due mid September so I have a long way to go. I think he should have some calves born this spring.

The link will take you to more information about him.

Firesweep - Upgrade himself has quite the negative milk epd and still gets used quite heavily. A power bull is a power bull , plain and simple ! I like all 3 in different ways. Chamberlain has some style to him. To each their own !!!

I would like to have more milk and growth in her too. If I would breed for bulls, I would like a bit more CE.

My Genex rep just called (Tammy Wallace), said he is $20 but has not frozen yet. They just leased him and he has to pass all his tests first. But, the good news, he is just up the road about an hour from me at Strafford, so I am going to go up on Saturday to see him! I wonder if Grizzly is gone? I took my animal science up there in December for a tour, and he was out in the pasture just as happy as can be (and fat!).
Thanks for turning me on to him, I really like the fact that he has a great milk number and he is an Upgrade. Like AltSimmy said, Upgrade does not have good milk number so I hesitate to use him even though many others are. Mind you, that may change when these younger bulls get females into production.....
