any ideas on how i can expand the heart girth region of a calf she wants to get a lil narrow as she come into it, is there something i can feed for this ?  thanks! Steve

You need to change genetics... something that isn't real easy to do after it is conceived!!

But no, nothing you can feed. Sorry.

I've found that lack of heart girth is difficult to breed out of one.  If mama is tight hearted, baby will likely be also.

Easy to breed in. Hard to breed out.

The Angus bull Anchor along with other Ohlde bred cattle did a good job of helping in this area. The Maine bull Sooner also does a nice job.

From my experience, the Novino based Maines (Etulason, Covino III, Inox etc.) were exceptionally bad in the heart girth and harder doing. Cunia was helpful in giving some internal dimension and give you more spring of rib. Numerous Shorthorns with Cunia base like Sonny do a good job too.
