Any one know what happened to Origen wagyu sire Bar R Ichiro 32R ???? I dont really understand what they are doing with him, he was heavily marketed as a 21 star genestar bull and supposed to be top of the heap as far as Wagyu sires go. Last time I looked at the origen site he wasn't listed and when I called there they said the owners  (Cattle Development Center of Montana) pulled him and decided "to do some different things with him" whatever that is supposed to mean and I havent seen his semen listed for sale anywhere else at all. Just curious about this cause I have 13 good Angus cows bred to him and i wanna make sure there are no defects. also i still have a cane full of straws in my tank and im wondering if I should use them or if there are no defects if they may be worth more. <cowboy>

maybe they found something good through carcass evaluation and want to develop a product and hold all the marbles.

or, the opposite.

So I havent been a member on this board for very long....noticed this is mostly club calf / market show steer oriented. That would explain lack or responces regarding a wagyu sire. Probably wouldnt win many jackpot shows with wagyu influence unless the had a grading contest afer slaughter.

Cattle Development Center of Custer Montana purchased Bar R Ichiro 32R, to start their composite breed "Montana Prime".

Not sure what the "other site" is.  What responses did you get?

Could a half-blood wagyu.....one half Shorthorn bull be developed that could be used as a heifer bull for the breed? Then all these traits could be infused into the Shorthorn breed that would eventually ride the ladder up to a purebred status. I'm just saying.

AJ the shorthorn would have to be really good in most traits. Wagyus are the pin up breed for what single trait selection can do to a breed over hundreds of years. That trait being meat quality. They are frail with no milk, structural problems, poor weight gain, low yield and very ugly. They do have a high libido the ability to walk long distances but do not herd like other cattle.

maybe you could syndicate a bull to a group of commercial cattlemen for 20,000 and register 3 calves in a year.
